Yesterday was a long but incredibly important day for our rescue team. From 4:00 PM until 11:30 PM, we were on the road bringing home two bearded dragons in need of specialized veterinary care and a fresh start.
The first beardie, Buddy, came to us with extensive documented medical concerns. According to his veterinary records, he has been battling severe skin ulcerations and infection, multiple healing fractures throughout the body, ear inflammation and damage, intermittent neurological tremors, and ongoing concerns requiring continued monitoring. While Buddy still has a long road ahead, some areas are thankfully already showing improvement with treatment.
We want to emphasize that surrendering an animal is never an easy decision, and we are grateful his previous owners chose rescue so he could continue receiving the care he needs.
The second beardie, Luna, is also showing several concerning medical symptoms, including swollen joints, multiple lumps, and skin issues. We are currently scheduling a veterinary appointment to continue diagnostics and treatment so we can better understand the extent of her condition and what long-term care may look like.
At this time, we have enough funding to get both dragons seen and begin treatment, but continued veterinary costs are difficult to predict. Exotic animal care, diagnostics, medications, imaging, and follow-up appointments can become expensive very quickly, especially for complex medical cases.
