Archie - paraplegic cat Archie's Cat Sanctuary (ACS) is a cat sanctuary, located in Galatas opposite the island of Poros. It is dedicated to Archie, our paraplegic cat (2019-2023).

We take in vulnerable sick cats and dogs that require long term medical assistance. We have 24 rescued street cats that have required urgent medical care and been nursed back to health; such as Archie who is paraplegic, Nelson who lost an eye as a kitten due to severe cat flu, Perrie who lost one leg as he was run over and our latest rescue Lulu who was found as an abandoned two-day-old kitten (no

w 10 weeks old). This page is dedicated to Archie who has taught us so much about resilience, during his short life as he battles infection after infection, undergoing major surgery and is now having major surgery again. Archie, our paraplegic cat desperately needs an operation. Archie is a precious little boy who is a lively loving cat, with a strong will to live. He was rescued at around three months old in 2019 on the Island of Poros, Greece. We don’t know if he was run over or was born like this. During his short life, Archie has had his share of health problems but has always pulled through. We know and love him as Archie our little fighter

Archie suffers from gastroenteritis, (and this is managed by providing a special diet) and Urinary tract infections (UTI’s). Due to constant UTI’s he underwent a perineal urethrostomy procedure in February this year. He has been fine until recently. Since early August he encountered complications from his early surgery resulting in an abscess on his leg, and he has been in and out of the vets for treatment including being hospitalized for a few days. Which we have managed to cover until now. At the moment Archie is at the vets waiting for his surgery, once his abscess has healed and is strong enough to undergo surgery. We cannot afford Archie’s operation and continued treatment. We try raise funds by having a stall or a fundraising dinner every few months, but due to Covid restrictions, we have been unable to do either. Unfortunately, we are now in a position where we have to ask for help with Archie’s operation and ongoing treatment not forgetting looking after all his rescued fur family. Our vet is very understanding as she knows that we help street cats, not only rescuing those in dire need but including sterilization programs and feeding but we still need to pay our bills regardless. Any donations however small will be greatly appreciated towards Archie’s care and to help us keep on top of the (feeding, worming, fleeing) bills. If you would like to donate, please send donations to Paypal: [email protected] - we are thankful for every donation to help us to help.

Today was a sad day for us as we had to euthanize this lovely old boy, we called Stan and was picked up during the TNR weekend. As he was suffering from severe cat flu and was breathing heavily our lovely Danish vets couldn't sterilize him as they would have lost him on the table. He was given an antibiotic injection and a course of Zithromax but there was no improvement. Took him to the vet today who did a range of blood tests and he tested for positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) (cat aids). The vet determined that he would deteriorate over the next couple of days and the best thing was to euthanize him. This is one of the sad sides of working with strays. We all try our best but we always can't save them all. Rest in peace Stan.

A mother cat and her kittens were also rescued after the little ones showed signs of cat flu. They’re currently staying at the campsite, receiving treatment and lots of care.

Jan, one of the volunteers, celebrated her birthday on Saturday, and the Danish team surprised her by singing Happy Birthday in Danish. A lovely moment in the middle of a busy day!

Here is Kelly (Mum) in the middle — she had a vet check-up as we're concerned she might have leishmaniasis. Samples from her swollen joints have been sent for testing, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed for good news.

In front is Clyde, who was recently sterilized as part of our TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) efforts. Behind him is his sister, Blonde, who along with Mum will be sterilized at a later date.

Every visit, every test, every step matters — for their health and for the well-being of the whole community.

Sunday was the final day of our TNR weekend, and we’re happy to share the results: 104 cats and 2 dogs were sterilized—32 on Friday, 37 on Saturday, and 35 on Sunday.

It’s been an intense few days, but incredibly rewarding. The amazing vet team from Denmark, courtesy of DFA, did an outstanding job, and we’re so thankful for their hard work and dedication.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped along the way—from trapping and transport to cleaning, organizing, and releasing. Special thanks to Miral for delivering much-needed coffees and tasty lunches, courtesy of Galatas Municipality, and not forgetting Katerina, who hosted the vets at eco glamping.

We couldn’t have done it without you all. We hope to welcome the team back in the autumn for another round. Every sterilization counts, and together we’re making a real difference.

Yesterday was Day 2 of our Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) sterilization programme, and it was a huge success! We managed to sterilize 37 cats and 2 male dogs – a big win for the local stray population.

Today is the final day, and we're hoping to beat our October record. Every animal we help is a step toward a healthier, safer life for the strays of Galatas.

A huge thank you to Danish Friends of Animals (DFA), volunteers, and supporters for making this possible. Let’s make this last day count!

Today was Day 1 of our free sterilisation programme with the amazing vet team from Danish Friends of Animals (DFA), and let’s just say, they came in swinging.

32 cats sterilised in one day. That’s 32 fewer litters, 32 healthier lives, and a massive dent in the cycle of suffering.

Two kittens also came through our doors with cat flu. The vets didn’t hesitate, they jumped in, treated them on the spot.

This team isn’t here for the photo ops. They’re here to work — and that’s exactly what they did. And the best part? We’ve got two more days of this.

Massive thanks to DFA and everyone hustling to make this happen — transporters, trappers, feeders, volunteers. You know who you are.

More updates coming. This is how we change the game.

We’re heartbroken to share that our sweet girl Puca passed away this morning.

She had recently stopped eating, so we took her in to see the vet. After a thorough check-up, it was clear she was in a lot of pain; her teeth were in very bad condition, and although she was underweight, the vet said the pain she was experiencing far outweighed the concern over her weight.

Puca underwent surgery, and the operation itself was a success. She made it through and initially seemed stable. But around six hours later, she suddenly lost the ability to walk. It happened again early this morning, and shortly after, she passed away peacefully.

The vet suspects the sedation may have affected her liver, as her gums had started turning yellow—a possible sign of liver failure.

We did everything we could for Puca, and she passed knowing she was safe, loved, and cared for. She meant a lot to us, and she will be dearly missed.

We still have her vet bill to cover. If you’re able to help, even a small donation would mean a great deal. Every little bit helps us continue caring for the others who still need us.

This weekend we have the awesome Danish team doing a free TNR - trap neuter and release programme, organised by DFA (Danish Friends of Animals) and the Galatas municipality. We are all excited to be working with Maria Siemoneit and Kristie Pertho Lerche (vet nurses) and looking forward to welcoming two new vets that we haven't worked with. Updates will be given. We wish the Danish team a safe journey tomorrow.

Three days ago, we introduced you to Cleopatra, the cat with the injured ear, and the eyes that have clearly seen too much.

Yesterday, she went to the vet for a full check-up. We needed to know what’s really going on, so the vet ran blood tests, and the results are in.

Two blood samples were taken:
• One for a cytology test, to check for any abnormal cells.
• Another is being kept for a biopsy, if the first test doesn’t give us clear answers.

Here’s what we know so far:
• Her white blood cell count is high, which suggests her body’s fighting off something.
• She’s also slightly anemic, which isn’t surprising given the state she was in.
• The good news? She tested negative for FeLV and FIV, two of the most serious feline viruses.

So yes, we’re relieved, but we’re not in the clear. She still needs an ultrasound and maybe that biopsy, depending on how things unfold. The cost for everything so far is €230.

This is where we need your help.

If you can spare a little to help us cover her vet bills, we’d be so grateful. Every single donation goes directly to her care.

PayPal: [email protected]
If you can’t donate right now, sharing this post helps more than you know.

Cleopatra has clearly been through a lot. We want to give her a real shot at healing, not just survival. And we can’t do it without you.
