These c**ts represent a cross we were especially excited to make, combining the athleticism, rideability, and exceptional temperament of Caballero DHZ with two outstanding Popeye K daughters.

Both boys are confident, expressive movers with excellent minds and a strong start to life. We look forward to watching them develop and are eagerly awaiting the rest of Caballero DHZ’s 2026 foal crop.

March West FF (“Johnny”) has found his new home!
Ritz Carlton x Ellan Vannin FF (Popeye K)

Bred by Fieldstone Farm, Johnny is an exceptional young gelding with remarkable potential and the most beautiful soul.

We’ve really enjoyed having him in the barn, guiding his early development as a show horse and preparing and presenting him at the 2025 Royal Horse Show. He is one of the classiest and most enjoyable horses I’ve had the opportunity to handle.

Building a solid foundation through groundwork and his start under saddle over these past several months has been a true pleasure. He’s a very special horse, and one we won’t soon forget. 🥹

Congratulations to his new owner — wishing this new partnership the very best for adventures ahead!

Our Long Lining Clinic at Braecrest this past Saturday was such a great day. We had a really fun, engaged group and spent the day working through the purpose, value, and practical application of long lining, with lots of discussion and hands-on work throughout. Thank you to everyone who came out, and a big thank you as well to my staff team and the volunteers who helped make it all happen. We’re looking forward to offering more clinics and educational days this summer, so stay tuned!

Long Lining Clinic – Theory, Safety & Hands-On Practice

After a long winter, many of us are ready to get back to the basics with our horses and head into the new season with fresh tools and ideas. Join us at Braecrest Farm for a relaxed and informative day focused on one of the most useful and often misunderstood training tools — long lining.

Whether you are developing young horses, working through training challenges, or simply wanting to improve your feel and communication from the ground, long lining can be an incredibly valuable part of a horse’s education.

The clinic will be taught by Claire Hunter, owner of Braecrest Farm. Claire has spent more than two decades breeding, training, and developing sport horses, with a strong focus on thoughtful horsemanship, groundwork, and understanding the horse’s mind as well as their body.

Date: Saturday, March 28
Time: 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Location: Braecrest Farm, Oro-Medonte, Ontario

Morning Session:

We will begin the day with theory and discussion, including:

🐴 Equipment and proper setup
🐴 Safety for both horse and handler
🐴 How long lining fits into training and horse development
🐴 Common mistakes and how to avoid them

This portion will include a demonstration with one of our horses and time for questions.

Lunch Break

🐴 Lunch will be provided for participants and auditors

Afternoon Session:

Participants will have the opportunity to try long lining themselves using experienced horses, with guidance and feedback throughout the afternoon.

🐴Participation Option – Hands On

Limited to 6 participants

Includes morning theory and demonstration, hands-on work with provided horses, individual feedback, and lunch.

Fee: $325

Participants should be comfortable handling horses and must attend the morning session before participating in the afternoon. Helmets, gloves, and proper footwear are required for hands-on work.

🐴 Auditor Option – Observe

Auditors are welcome to observe the full day.

Fee:
$100 (without lunch)
$125 (with lunch)

Auditors may observe sessions only, and are welcome to participate in the Q & A.

Horses will be provided for the clinic. No outside horses will be brought in.

Participation spots are limited so everyone has time to learn, practice hands-on long lining, and ask questions.

Foals are born without immunity. In those first critical hours, their protection comes entirely from the mare’s colostrum through antibody (IgG) transfer across the intestinal lining.

The higher the quality — and the sooner they nurse — the stronger their defence against everyday pathogens.

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 explains how she evaluates colostrum quality right at the stall — and why testing is so important during foaling season.

If quality is low, fresh or properly stored frozen colostrum must be administered immediately. Those first hours truly matter. ⏱️

As the year comes to a close, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to our clients, friends, and the broader horse community for being part of the Braecrest Farm journey.

This time of year is always special at the farm — a time of reflection, quieter days in the barn, and growing excitement for the year ahead. Before we know it, we will look forward to the arrival of new foals and the fresh beginnings that spring will bring!
