We are passionate about our feral and our TNR work.

We are a charity based on the south coast, with over 30 years experience of cat welfare and rescue, we are passionate about cats, their well-being and our community! RESCUE WORK
We rescue stray or abandoned cats and kittens and work to re-home them into secure, loving homes once they have undergone extensive medical checks/treatment and of course are old enough. In the case of feral cats, where th

ey cannot be domesticated, we will neuter them, address any health concerns and either return them to their original home if possible or alternatively find a suitable new home. When feral kittens are found, we work slowly to socialise them and transform them from hissy, spitty little fireballs, into loving and playful kittens. ORPHANS
When kittens have been abandoned or orphaned we have an expert team of carers and equipment, and can hand-rear around the clock, saving hundreds of defenceless lives since we began. ADOPTION

SNEEZY HAS MADE HER FIRST KILL

Please approach with caution. 😂

Sneezy has successfully hunted, captured and subdued the extremely dangerous feather toy.

And just LISTEN to that growl!

Apparently she would like it made very clear that this is HER kill, she caught it entirely by herself and absolutely nobody is getting it.

From a tiny kitten who was dumped in a box in the woods with her mum and six siblings, to this ferocious little hunter…

Safe, happy, growing and discovering just how much fun being a kitten is supposed to be.

Well done, Sneezy. Mighty hunter. Protector of feathers.

A few days ago, Roger did something completely out of character - he peed on the floor.

Now, that might not sound particularly dramatic, but Roger is a 9-year-old male cat, and we take ANY change in urination very seriously. Male cats can develop urinary blockages, where they become unable to pass urine. A complete blockage is an emergency and can become life-threatening very quickly, so unusual toileting is never something we ignore.

Off Roger went to his lovely friends at Heathside Veterinary Surgery for a full check-up, blood tests and a urine test

And thankfully… everything came back reassuring.

The only thing his bloods have shown is that his kidney levels are starting to tell us Roger has reached that stage of life where his kidneys need a little extra looking after. Nothing dramatic, just time for us to be proactive and support them with the right kidney-friendly diet and monitoring as he gets older.

Apparently he was the best boy and, rather than being remotely concerned about where he was, demanded belly rubs from Aunty Nickie and practically everyone who came anywhere near him.

He even came home with a certificate for being the MOST HANDSOME PATIENT.

And just a little reminder from Roger: if your cat suddenly starts peeing somewhere unusual, straining, repeatedly visiting the tray, crying when trying to wee, or producing little or no urine — particularly if they’re male — please don’t wait. Contact a vet urgently.

Well… we think this video tells you everything you need to know about how Stanley is feeling.

After the huge worry of last week, the seizures, the hospital stay and all the fear surrounding our little blind boy, Stanley is back home, feeling brilliant and causing absolute chaos.

Apparently, being blind is no obstacle whatsoever when there’s an unattended toilet roll that quite clearly needs to be completely unravelled and attacked.

Seeing him playing, being mischievous and so completely full of life is just the BEST feeling.

Our gorgeous Stanley is on the mend

And judging by the state of that toilet roll… he’s got some catching up to do on the mischief front!

You go Stanley! You’ve worried us enough, you can destroy as many toilet rolls as you like. ❤️🐾

This weekend our friends at RSPCA Stubbington Ark are holding their huge Summer Fete and The Cat Welfare Group will have a stall there

There is SO much going on — live music, vintage cars, market stalls, food, ice cream, raffles, bouncy castle, face painting, axe throwing, kids’ activities and loads more!

🍰 Saturday also sees the Summer Fete Bake-Off
🐶 Sunday is Dog Show day!

And amongst all of that, you’ll find Team TCWG! 💙

After the incredible support you’ve shown us this week, it would be absolutely lovely to see some friendly faces in person. ❤️

WHAT A DIFFICULT 48 HOURS… BUT THIS POST IS ALSO A THANK YOU!

After the post I never wanted to write, the last 48 hours have rather proved exactly why I had to write it.

Stanley became very unwell and had to be admitted to Lumbry Park Veterinary Specialists after immense support from Heathside Veterinary Surgery and Vets for Pets Eastleigh

And then today, little Bashful, one of Snow White’s kittens who I am fostering, suddenly became very poorly.

I already had a routine vet appointment booked for him this afternoon, but there was absolutely nothing routine about what happened next.

He deteriorated frighteningly quickly.

He was flat. He was vomiting. He wasn't lifting his head.

At just 350g and already very underweight for his age, watching this tiny little boy fade in front of me was terrifying.

There was no question of waiting for his appointment.

He went straight in to the amazing Dr Mags at Fareham Park Gate Vets for Pets who very quickly diagnosed coccidia.
Because Bashful was already so tiny and so incredibly flat, the next couple of hours were critical.

And this is where all of YOU come in.

Just 48 hours ago, I had to tell our trustees that we simply couldn't continue taking cats in because there wasn't enough money to keep meeting the vet bills.

Then Stanley needed specialist hospital care.

Then Bashful crashed.

But because of the completely overwhelming response to our appeal, when these two boys desperately needed help, we didn't have to hesitate.

We didn't have to ask, “Can we afford this?”

We could simply say “Do whatever he needs.”

I cannot adequately explain what that means to a rescue.

You gave Stanley access to the specialist care he needed at Lumbry.

And today, you gave a tiny 350g kitten the chance to fight when every minute mattered.

YOU did that.

I am completely blown away by the donations, the shares, the offers of help and, perhaps most of all, the messages you have sent us.

So many of you have told us that you believe in what TCWG does.

That you understand why we take the difficult cases.

That you don't want us to stop.

After what has been an incredibly difficult few weeks, we needed to hear that more than you could possibly know.

We aren't out of the woods. We still have huge vet bills ahead of us, Billie and Obi still need their surgeries, and we have many cats and kittens already relying on us.

But 48 hours ago things felt incredibly bleak.

Today, because of you, they feel a little less frightening.

Tonight our thoughts are with Stanley and our tiny Bashful.

Please keep everything crossed for them both. 🤞❤️

Thank you for fighting alongside us.

💔 THE POST I NEVER WANTED TO WRITE.

This is Tracy.

I have just had to tell Lorri that we have to close The Cat Welfare Group to all new intakes, effective immediately.

Not slow down.
Not become more selective.
Close.

I have just paid all of our outstanding July vet bills and looked at what is left.

We have enough money to cover our expected August vet bills.

And that’s it.

That doesn't include the major surgeries already ahead of us. It doesn't allow for another emergency. Another critically ill kitten. Another cat hit by a car. Another desperate phone call asking us to save a life.

And the awful reality is that the calls don't stop just because the money has.

This is just a snapshot of the last few days:

💔 A 14-year-old boy has come into our care extremely unwell and jaundiced. He is undergoing tests to find out what is wrong and whether we can help him.

💔 One of our queens has developed mastitis. She needs treatment including K-Laser therapy every two days.

💔 A mum and SEVEN kittens arrived after being dumped in a box in the woods. Mum is painfully thin and suffering with a severe flea allergy, the kittens have fleas, worms & diarrhoea.

💔 Tiny Billie and Obi still need their major eye surgeries. We launched an appeal for them and, despite the incredible people who have donated, we haven't raised enough to cover those surgeries.

💔 And Stanley is having seizures again.

Today, while all of that is happening, we have had to say NO to two more young kittens with cat flu.

That is the bit that breaks you.

Because we know what can happen to kittens with severe flu. We know how quickly eyes can be destroyed. We know what happens when treatment comes too late.

But knowing we could help them and knowing we cannot afford to are two very different things.

For years, TCWG has been the rescue that says yes to the cats other people can't take.

The surgical cases.
The blind kittens.
The broken ones.
The elderly ones.
The ones needing thousands of pounds of treatment when there is no sensible financial reason to say yes.

We say yes because their lives are worth saving.

But we cannot keep saying yes when there is no money left to pay the vets.

So I need to be absolutely clear about where we are:

If we cannot raise the money we need, TCWG cannot continue operating as we have been.

This isn't a dramatic fundraising line.

It is where we are.

Lorri and the team cannot magic money from nowhere, and our vets cannot work for free. We will never compromise the care of the cats already with us by taking in more animals than we can afford to treat.

So today, the doors have to close.

If you have ever followed one of our cats...

If you've watched one arrive broken and seen them leave for a new home...

If you've ever thought, “Thank God TCWG was there for that one”...

🖤 MUM & HER SEVEN DWARFS 🖤

We really do try not to reuse names at TCWG…

But sometimes a family arrives and there is simply no alternative

Meet Snow White and her seven little dwarfs:

Doc, Grumpy, Happy, Sleepy, Bashful, Sneezy & D***y

This beautiful little family were found dumped in a box in the woods.

Mum and seven tiny kittens. Just left there.

Thankfully they were found, and they are now safe with us. ❤️

They aren’t in the best condition. Mum is very thin and has obvious skin problems consistent with a flea allergy, and the whole family need some TLC.

But just look at her. Despite everything she’s been through, she’s still there surrounded by all seven of her babies, feeding them and looking after them

And judging by the scenes at lunch time, the dwarfs have absolutely no intention of going hungry now

The most important thing is that Snow White and all seven dwarfs are safe.

Warm. Fed. Together.

And nobody is ever putting them in a box and abandoning them again

A WEEK OF HOPE FOR BILLIE & OBI ❤️

It’s been just one week since we told you about Billie and Obi — two tiny babies who arrived in our care with severely damaged, infected eyes.

At first, we were terrified that their sight was already lost.

But thanks to their incredible foster Mum Tracey, the amazing veterinary specialists at Optivet Referrals, and the continued care they are receiving, there is now a glimmer of hope.

Every few hours, day and night, Tracey has been treating their eyes and giving them the medication they need to fight the infection. These two little babies have been through so much, yet they continue to fight.

On Wednesday, the specialists gave us a clearer picture of what they are facing.

Both Billie and Obi have Eyelid Agenesis — a condition where their eyelids failed to fully develop during pregnancy. They have only around a third of their upper eyelids, and little Billie has only a partial lower eyelid on her left eye.

Because their eyelids haven’t formed properly, their hair and eyelashes are growing into their eyes, causing constant irritation and damage to their corneas.

We believe this may have happened because their Mum suffered from infection and poor nutrition during pregnancy.

And heartbreakingly, Billie’s condition may also have caused the perforations in her corneas.

We don’t yet know if her eyes can be saved.

But there are signs of improvement. And that means we have hope.

If Billie’s eyes continue to improve and can be saved, once she is big and strong enough, she may be able to have the same lip-to-lid reconstruction surgery as Obi.

It is a long, complex and very expensive procedure — but it has a very good success rate.

And that could mean something incredibly precious:

Billie and Obi could have the chance to see.

To explore the world around them.

To watch each other grow.

To play, cuddle, and cause mischief.

To live the happy, comfortable, pain-free lives that every little baby deserves.

We cannot bear the thought of giving up on them when there is still a chance.

But we desperately need your help.

Their treatment, specialist care and potential surgery will cost a huge amount of money. We are a small rescue, and without the generosity of our supporters, we simply cannot take on cases as complex and heartbreaking as this.

Every single donation — no matter how small — brings Billie and Obi one step closer to the future they deserve.

🐾 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY! 🐾

Today is a day to celebrate cats everywhere

The pampered ones taking up far too much of the bed.
The naughty ones knocking things off shelves while maintaining complete innocence.
The oldies snoozing their days away.
The tiny kittens discovering the world.
The blind ones who don’t know they’re any different - as Stanley is demonstrating
The three-legged ones who are still faster than us.
And, of course, the slightly bonkers ones who keep us permanently on our toes. 😹

But today we’re also thinking about the cats who don’t yet have what every cat deserves.

The strays trying to survive.
The mums having litter after litter.
The kittens born outside.
The injured, frightened and forgotten ones.
And the cats sitting in rescue, waiting for somebody to choose them.

We see some of them at their absolute worst — frightened, sick, injured and sometimes with no reason at all to trust humans.

And then we get to see the best bit.

They heal. They learn to trust. They find their people. And eventually, photographs arrive of them sprawled across sofas and beds, thoroughly loved and completely in charge of their new homes. ❤️

That is why we do what we do.

So, on International Cat Day, give your cats an extra cuddle from us, spoil them a little more than usual and remember just how lucky we are to share our lives with these incredible little creatures.
