As the seasons change, young fox cubs embark on a brave journey, exploring new territories and confronting fresh challenges.

For one little cub, this journey took a heartbreaking turn. She is suffering from a severe case of mange, a distressing condition caused by mites that invade the skin, leading to relentless itching and loss of fur. Left untreated, foxes can succumb to secondary infections.

Fortunately, a compassionate member of the public spotted her plight. With advice and coordination from our help desk and dedicated response team, she was safely secured and transported to our centre for the care she desperately needed. We hold onto hope for her recovery.

You can play a vital role in supporting our mission. By joining our Patreon community, you help provide the consistent funding necessary for rehabilitating Irish wildlife.

For just €5 a month, you can make a difference and be part of our journey.

Rare species alert! This is the first admission of a Merlin we have had at KWR. Merilns are amber lsited and Irelands smallest, most elusive falcon with males only being slightly larger than a blackbird.

Though similar in appearance to a kestrel, merlins are fast, low flying birds and do not hover when hunting, but use quick low pursuits to catch their prey. Merlins are a rare breeding species in Ireland that nest on the ground in mountains, bogland and moorlands, which puts their nest sites at risk from habitat destruction. Recently, they have taken to nesting in forests adjacent to moorlands.

Wishlist Wednesday is BACK!

We are reaching out for your generous support as we aim to enhance our volunteer experience. Our incredible volunteers pour their hearts into what they do, and it is essential that we provide them with the necessary resources to keep their work environment comfortable and efficient.

Unfortunately, our fridge in the volunteer area has broken down, leaving our team without a place to store their lunches and keep perishable items fresh and safe. This is where we need your help.

We are looking for a new fridge that can cater to our volunteers' needs and support their hard work. If you are able to assist in any way, we have included a link below to contribute.

We truly appreciate your unwavering support and kindness.

Thank you for being such an important part of our community.

Of 18 barn owls we have admitted this year, 11 have been admitted after a road traffic collision, including this beautiful owl from Laois.

Barn owls are vulnerable to traffic because they hunt along verges near tree lines. The sides of motorways often replicate these conditions. They are also nocturnal, and low flying while foraging, which means by the time drivers spot them it is too late to take any action.

Barn owls are a red lsited species in Ireland and in 2021 new road planning rules were introduced to help mitigate the risk of collision for these incredible birds.

This sparrowhawk came in after suffering a concussion from a window strike.

She was brought to Village Vets Bray by a caring member of the public where she received initial care before being transferred to the centre.

One of 5 sparrowhawks we are currently caring for, she will soon be returning to the wild.

Wood pigeons are one of our most frequently admitted patients. They are incredibly resilient birds that deserve our admiration.
