There is no easy way to say this: our dear friend and colleague Alfie Lockhart passed away. Words cannot begin to describe the sadness that's fallen upon our Canines, Cats & Critters family. We wish Alfie and his family, friends and loved ones peace. We are so very sorry for the loss of our beloved friend. OUR OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED on Saturday May 11th to attend his funeral services. We will miss him very much.

During the past few weeks, there have been several positive cases of parvovirus in puppies on St. Thomas and a few on St. John too. Many of these puppies are dying.

Parvovirus causes symptoms that include bloody diarrhea with a very foul odor, vomiting, inappetence and general lethargy. This virus lives in the soil for many years and cannot be killed in the soil. Hard surfaces like floors can be cleaned with a dilute bleach solution to kill the virus.

โš ๏ธ The vaccine for parvovirus is very effective. It has a variety of names which include: DHPP, DHLPP, combo vaccine, 7 in one, 5 in one.
โš ๏ธPuppies in the middle of receiving their puppy shots on schedule are generally protected, but it is still recommended to keep them away from public spaces where unvaccinated dogs might roam until all of their puppy shots are complete.

Ma*****na is Toxic to Pets

With the increased use of ma*****na and THC edibles in the Virgin Islands, we have seen an increase in the number of pets getting into ma*****na and suffering from toxicity. Dogs and cats are attracted to the smell and taste of ma*****na alone and also to edible products like gummies and chocolate.

Signs of toxicity include, increased sleepiness, head tremor/head bob, dribbling urine, and increase sensitivity to sudden movements.
In most cases, pets will recover with time as they sleep off the side effects. However, some pets can become very sick due to hypothermia, low blood pressure and toxicity from other ingredients in edibles.

PLEASE keep your ma*****na/THC products out of the reach of your pets. It could make them very sick and now you just wasted your supply!
