REAL Cruzan Cats

REAL Cruzan Cats R.E.A.L. Cruzan Cats is dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats on St. Croix. Croix through Rescue Education Adoption and Love. Cruzan Cats!

Cruzan Cats is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection and humane treatment of cats on St. Since 2016, we have placed over 850 cats and kittens (and many dogs!) into loving homes and TNVR-ed (trap, neuter, vaccinate, return) more than 3,500 free-roaming cats. Only your support has made this possible, please help us take the next steps towards a more humane US Virgin Islands. RCC

has made huge strides. In 2021, we acquired a 5-acre property in Christiansted to build the first large-scale cat sanctuary in the USVI and also began supplying free cat food island-wide to members of the community who feed community cats but cannot afford to purchase supplies with our Food For Ferals program. In 2022, we started a spay/neuter clinic led by Dr. Michelle Mehalick to TNVR and provide low-cost spay and neuter, vaccines, and other needed veterinary services around island. In our first 22 clinic days, we have spayed/neutered over 600 cats and dogs, for free or at very low cost, to clients that include owned pets, community cats and animals in foster with other rescue organizations. NOW THE REAL WORK BEGINS AND YOUR HELP IS CRITICAL! Our work - and your support - over the past 6 years is giving more than hope to cats like Hope and Homer - but it’s an uphill battle. We need a more systematic and sustainable approach, and - we’ve found one! That’s the task before us, and we really need your help! $25 will feed 100 cats for a day! $50 provides a combo test and vaccine for one cat or kitten we rescue into our organization. $100 provides complete initial vetting and spay for one rescue kitten! $500 will feed 50 community cats for a month! $1,000 will sponsor a feeding station within the new sanctuary, $1,500 will sponsor a low-cost clinic for a day, and $10,000 will fence one acre of sanctuary land. We need approximately $20,000 to build our Mobile Spay/Neuter Clinic. Every single donation will be used to further our work to end cat overpopulation on island and give the animals who live on the island a healthier, safer, better life. Despite the challenges all of us are facing, we still deeply believe in our mission, and we hope you do too! We ask you to be a CAT-VOCATE and to consider making as generous a gift as you can to help us reach our goals. A heartfelt thank you from all of us at R.E.A.L.

Update on Nick…The giardia are fighting back, so things are still messy here, but Nick has been eating well since this morning and has gained some weight. He was .99 yesterday so we’re going in the right direction! His skin is healing where this endless 💩 has burned him (hello bowl baths, wet wipes, tissues, coconut oil, & Aquaphor). Keeping him, foster mom Renee, and everything else clean has been a full-time job. He’s lost hair on those bits, but once things have turned around, they tend to fill in pretty quickly. Yes, please. Fostering is tough. We appreciate your donations to feed, medicate, and heal these little kittens. Visit realcruzancats.org to donate, learn more, and adopt!!

Thank you to Susan, adopter of 2 of the former basketball kittens, for her continued donations. Nick, Minnie, and Wasabi all enjoyed what came in the latest box. The formula will come in handy for the next bottle-baby SOS call that we hope doesn't come anytime in the near future.

Supplies are always needed, so if you've been wondering how to help, one way is buying from our Wish list.

Help us find JUNIPER A HOME! This beautiful shorthaired female cat was finally rescued off the streets of St Croix the end of December with a TERRIBLE LEG INJURY! Basically, She was walking on her EXPOSED leg bone. Thanks to Donations she could receive xrays, AMPUTATION, spay, and vaccines. Now 5 1/2 months later she has overcome her fears and has turned into a loving cat! We think she is about15 months old, had a litter at some point and probably was never owned. She will need VERY PATIENT ADOPTERS! It may take her a month or so to adjust to the sounds and smells in your house. You will need to be calm, let her come to you for scratches and pets. She does love pets! She loves to “ hunt” toys. She will make an amazing addition to your home. PLEASE ADOPT! Visit realcruzancats.org to learn more & apply for adoption!

Nick was having a good day yesterday, but a pretty crappy morning. But tests have confirmed its GIARDIA!!! (an infection of the small intestine caused by a microscopic parasite). which is sort of frustrating since Nick & his 3 siblings had been treated for that & every other bug for longer than we usually do since a prior coccidia diagnosis. Some of these parasites are getting pretty hard to kill off. So we’re switching gears, trying a different med, and crossing our fingers. He’s back under a pound. Sigh. Nice and toasty after FINALLY eating a meal. Syringe feedings with lots of good stuff have spurred his appetite, and hopefully the drugs will kick in quickly and stop the 💩 aftermath that will now come.... his slick wet look is from coconut oil to help soothe his sore skin

Kitten Nick’s update. Fostering is tough. Its not all meows, purrs and snuggles. This kitten, Nick, came in from the lagoon with 3 others a couple of weeks ago and has been having some serious 💩 issues. It keeps him dirty, burns his nether regions, and has put him at under a pound when his siblings are on their way to 2 pounds. It’s also tiring for the person fostering who also has a full time job.
So Nick came back to another foster mom to try & “plug” him up & put some weight on him. It’s taking some brain storming and everything but the kitchen sink, but there have been some signs of improvement. Let’s think good thoughts. He is the sweetest thing despite it all.🍭😽. If you would like to support our organization’s efforts and our foster parents, please donate at realcruzancats.org

The little kittens rescued last week are doing well except one little fella is having a very hard time with his belly, so we asked Dr. Stacia Paws 4 Peace Veterinary Clinic to run some more labs for him. Hopefully we’ll be able to better help him soon. Foster mom Sabrina named them after New Girl characters, Nick, Schmidt, Winston and Jess. Welcome to the REAL Cruzan Cats family little kittens! 💕🐾

As always, thank you for your support to help us nurse these babies to good health and give them loving lives! 🙏
