If your dog is showing any signs of respiratory illness, please get to your vet immediately!
The newest Canine Respiratory illness is one our team has limited information on it’s cause. Symptoms can resemble past identified canine viruses/bacterial infections: coughing, discharge from nose/eyes. Some dogs are deteriorating quickly and become lethargic and developing pneumonia. Our team is treating every symptomatic dog as a possible case.
What can you do?
*Keep your pet up to date on vaccinations.
*Weigh the risks of your dog(s) being in heavily traveled dog areas. Facilities (groomers, dog daycare, etc) are taking steps to keep your pet safe; however, this illness has a tendency to spread quickly so contagion in these high traffic areas may not be able to be regulated.
*Please call us at 317-873-1833 if you feel your pet is sick or becoming symptomatic. This illness has shown in other parts of the country that quick medical intervention has led to better outcomes.
What we are doing in our clinic to minimize spread?
1) Having clients and their symptomatic dogs wait in their vehicle until their veterinary team is ready to see the pup.
2) Having these families enter/exit the side door/room so possibly contagious pups are kept out of the lobby/general care areas. This exam room is the only one in use on this side of the building.
3) Staggering symptomatic pet appointments to allow for sanitizing between possibly ill pets.
4) Deep cleaning protocols with extra sanitation procedures in place.
