❤️‍🩹 Can you make a donation of any size to support Herbo's recovery?
At 9 years old, this sweet senior was found in an alley, covered in flies and hardly able to walk. Herbo had several severe wounds on his legs that had become infected, and he needed our help to stand and walk. Our vet team immediately began treating his injuries, started him on medication for the infection, and gave him a warm, dry place to heal. We were encouraged to see his swelling significantly reduced in the days that followed, and X-rays thankfully revealed there was no bone damage -- despite how serious his condition appeared.
Herbo was sedated for his final wound treatment and has been feeling stronger with each passing day since.
He is repeatedly described as "an absolute sweetheart" by his care team and is going to make an incredible best friend once he's cleared for adoption and ready for a home.

Bilbo is growing up in the shelter… and it’s breaking our hearts.

Bilbo is just a year and a half old—still so young—but he’s already spent too much of his life waiting behind kennel doors.

Since he arrived back in February from our friends at Waukegan Police Animal Control, Bilbo has brought a spark of life to the shelter. He’s full of curiosity and always eager to engage. He’s a social, playful soul who’s happiest when he’s connecting with others, whether it’s through a game, a cuddle, or simply being near someone who cares.

But no matter how much love he gets at the shelter, it’s not the same as a home. He’s growing up without the comfort of his own space, the stability of a real routine, or the deep bond that comes from being someone’s dog. He has a bed, but not a place to truly belong.

Bilbo loves to swim, to run, to learn, to live—and he’s more than ready for a family who will let him do all of that and more. He has so much joy to give, and all he needs now is a chance to share it.

Adoptable Mounds is struggling. She is an amazing dog with so much love to give, but the shelter environment is taking its toll. Once full of tail wags and bright eyes, she’s now shutting down — quieter, more withdrawn, and clearly feeling the weight of shelter life. Mounds needs a home and family asap.

But let us tell you who Mounds really is—when she’s not weighted down by shelter life....

Mounds is a Husky mix with a heart of gold, especially when it comes to kids. In her foster home, she formed an instant, gentle bond with their toddler—always staying close, patiently watching over them, and soaking up every bit of affection. She’s the kind of dog that makes you say, “Wow… she just gets kids.”

Beyond her love for little humans, Mounds is a laid-back, easygoing girl. She enjoys sunbathing outside or curling up for a cozy nap inside. She’s housebroken, an easy walker, and total couch potato material. She’s still figuring out other dogs, but with the right match, she has potential to coexist peacefully.

And yes—she has that classic husky charm: full of expressive “awoos” and occasional mischief (like the time she escaped her crate just to be found adorably snuggled in bed with her foster family—honestly, who could blame her?).

Mounds is calm, affectionate, and incredibly intuitive. She just wants to be near her people—especially a family with kids to love on. Mounds deserves more than a kennel. She deserves a home where her true personality can shine. Come meet her today—we open at noon!
