One of the hardest days ever. We lost our beautiful, 80 lb. African Sulcata tortoise on Thursday. My neighbor posted on FB lost and found pets. I seen it and was sure it was her. And explained why she didn't come out of her burrow to eat. We went right away and didn't find her. We even bought a brand new phone with an apple air tag in case she ever got out. So we could track her. A friend borrowed us the safe gel to adhere the tag to her. The neighbor and daughter left her at the canel to fetch their phone to call for help. They came back and she wasn't there. I don't blame them in any way. If the daughter stayed, she could have ended up in the canal with her. Tortoises are highly inquisitive. And want what they want. And fighting a 80 lb tortoise having a hissy fit, is not easy, Especially when they want to climb stairs or bust into the house. They are ADHD toddlers that weigh a ton and get mad if they don't get there way. There was nothing broken or even moved, no holes that she crawled under in her yard. Just vanished. I had to identify her this morning, pictures of my girl after being pulled from the canal. My heart broke all over again, just as it did every time I got iny car to look for her several times a day. It brought closure. But my heart weighs a thousand pounds in my chest. I never thought I could love a tortoise this much. Having a Sanctuary can be so heartbreaking sometimes.

If you have any kind of animals outside, please invest in a mister system. 116 degrees later this week is not good for human or animals. Stay cool.

We have been communicating with
all of the local rescues.
Unfortunately we all
have the same problem. Not enough space, not enough volunteers, and not enough donations. All facilities are at maximum intake. We are trying to enlarge our kennel space at this time. But that is going to take time and money. And humane society is not taking any in either , unless they are seriously sick or injured. I wish there was an easy solution. What? Unfortunately there is not. Do you have the ability to help? Do you have the ability to foster? Do you have the ability to take in several of these cats and kittens and bring them to get them fixed? Unfortunately more nonprofits are closing their doors. We cannot do it without the help of others.
