Let’s just all agree that Standard Poodles are one of the most elegant dog breeds out there 🐩🖤

There is something timeless about them. Their long legs, proud posture, graceful movement, and those gorgeous coats make them true showstoppers. They’re one of the few breeds that can wear so many different styles, from a clean, modern trim to the classic continental clip and somehow they look stunning in every one.

They are one of most intelligent, athletic, and versatile dog breeds in the world. They’re eager to learn, incredibly loyal, and full of personality. Whether they’re competing in sports, working as service dogs, competing in shows or simply being a beloved family companion, Standard Poodles excel at just about everything they do.

Their iconic coat is one of the things that makes them so unique but it also comes with responsibility. Because their hair continuously grows, routine grooming isn’t a luxury, it’s an essential part of keeping them healthy, comfortable, and able to enjoy life to the fullest.

I honestly wish we saw more Standard Poodles. They are such an incredible breed and their coat is a groomer’s dream because there are so many creative possibilities while still preserving the breed’s beautiful outline and elegance.

One thing I always encourage Poodle owners to do is start the traditional clean face and clean feet when they’re young even when we’re not taking any length off the body yet. Introducing puppies to the clippers on these sensitive areas early helps them become comfortable with the process, making future grooming appointments much less stressful for both the dog and the groomer. It also preserves one of the most iconic and elegant features of the breed.

Standard Poodles have been turning heads for generations and there’s something truly special about embracing the beauty and history of the breed.

We can’t wait to see Lulu’s transformation over the years and we are over the moon her parents chose us to start her on her grooming journey 🥰

✨MEET THE OWNER✨

Hi, I’m Josephine, the owner and head Pet Stylist of Grooming by Josephine.

If you’ve been around for a while, you definitely know me and if you’re new you’ve probably seen my face around the salon but I thought it was time to properly introduce myself.

I was born and raised right here in Yuma, Arizona and I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember.
Growing up, I always knew I’d work with animals and after several years working in the pet industry I stumbled into dog grooming and completely fell in love with it.

Taking the leap to open my own salon was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done but it’s also been one of the best decisions of my life.

When I opened Grooming by Josephine, I was a seasoned “groomer” working at several “shops” in town and I knew I wanted to create something different.

I didn’t want dogs spending hours sitting in kennels.
I didn’t want appointments rushed just to squeeze in more dogs.
And I never wanted owners to feel like they were “just another client.”

I wanted a salon where every dog is treated like family, where patience always comes before perfection, where quality will always matter more than quantity and where my employees know they’re supported, appreciated, and encouraged to take pride in their work, not rush through it.

Outside of work, you’ll usually find me working out with some of my favorite people. Spending time with my husband and our two boys, and hanging out with our German Shepherd puppy, who has quickly become my biggest sidekick.

What I love most about this job isn’t the haircuts, it’s the relationships. Watching nervous puppies grow into confident dogs, seeing excited tails wag when they come back to the salon, and getting to know so many amazing families has been the biggest blessing.

Thank you to every client who has trusted me with your dogs over the years. Watching this little dream grow into an amazing team and community has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.

Supporting my small business has allowed me to build a career that truly doesn’t feel like work and I’ll never stop being grateful for that 🐾💜

How often should your dog be groomed?

The answer isn’t based on a calendar, it’s based on your dog’s coat, lifestyle, age, and grooming needs.

Waiting until your dog looks like they need grooming often means mats have already started forming, nails have become overgrown, ears need extra attention, undercoat has become impacted, or the appointment becomes much longer and more stressful than it needed to be.

Preventative grooming is always kinder than corrective grooming.

We’ve worked hard to build a salon centered around patience, quality, honesty, and respect. That means our policies aren’t negotiable, our recommendations are made in your DOG’S best interest, and we won’t compromise our standards just to fill an appointment.

We believe every dog deserves a calm, positive grooming experience, and every member of our team deserves to work in an environment where they’re respected.

If you’re looking for a groomer who values communication, professionalism, and your dog’s long-term well-being, we’d love to welcome you.

If you’re looking for the cheapest price, want exceptions to every policy, or expect us to ignore what we know is best for your dog, we’re not the right fit.
