This is a found bird post but we aren’t looking for the owners . Please read …
We don’t really do rescue anymore but we do work with the public and Yuma agencies in emergency type situations. Today I got a call from a concerned citizen that found 2 cockatiels in the desert. They were able to catch and take them safely to their home and contacted us.
There is no doubt in my mind that these 2 were dumped. Their wings are trimmed and they can’t fly at all. They look pretty healthy for being in the desert. Which means they were found pretty quickly.
People wake up!!! There are rescues that will take your animals! The first one you call may not be able to hell the second one you call may not be able to but keep calling someone somewhere will be able to! This is happening way too often! These animals that are getting dumped out in the desert don’t ask you to take them in it’s our choice! Do the right thing by them when you take an animal on! If you can’t take care of them anymore reach out! Someone somewhere will help you! I hate to think what would have happened to these to of someone hadn’t found them so fast. They would not have made it a day.

Potty Training Pet Birds

Birds defecate often. For this reason, some owners will try to potty train their bird.

When a bird receives a reward for defecating on command or at the right spot, they might start pushing more or harder just to get a reward. In extreme cases this could even lead to cloacal prolapse. Another issue could occur when the owner is away and someone else takes care of the bird. The bird might not understand when and where it is allowed to defecate.
