Blue Barn Ranch is a family-owned boarding/training business. Located on the Mesa in Yucca Valley, California Blue Barn Ranch boards horses, dogs and cats.

We offer dog training including obedience, Agility, Rally Obedience, Tracking and more! Blue Barn Ranch boards horses, dogs, cats and small animals. Horse boarding starts at $350.00 per month for a a 24X24' corral with a shade cover, your horse's hay (Bermuda grass and/or alfalfa, fed 3 times daily), water, mucking daily and use of our facility. We have corrals with three-sided shelters and barn stalls with attached corrals also. Please call or text for pricing. Our amenities include: two arenas, three round pens, a hot walker, two tack rooms, wash rack and a clean restroom. We can provide additional services such as turn outs, blanketing, supplementing and grooming. Residents can enjoy our private Equestrian Path. We vacation board horses by the day or week also. Horses must have proof of current Rhino/Flu and EWT/WNV. A current negative Coggins test is required for all horses arriving from out of state. Dogs board at $45.00 per day. This includes their food, (unless they require a special diet) and a play/exercise session daily. Dogs must be up to date on vaccinations for their age. Canine required vaccinations: rabies, combination shot and Bordetella. Cats board at $37.00 per day. Their food is included (unless they require a special diet) and attention daily. Feline required vaccination: rabies and combination shot. We have discounts for military, service professions, seniors, multiple dogs/cats in board, and discounts for dogs/cats adopted from a shelter. Short and long-term boarding available for dogs and small animals as well as extended board for deployments or relocation. We have three fenced training areas and a fenced Agility Course. Canine Pool available to dogs in board or daycare. Beginner Swim Instruction $50. (Required 30 minute session prior to scheduling other pool activities.) Individual Swim Session $25. for a 15 minute session allowing additional instruction or play. Swim Pass (5 Sessions) $100. Save money by purchasing a swim pass. Super Swim Pass (10 Sessions) $180. Save even more money with our largest swim pass! We offer beginner through advanced obedience training, Agility, Rally Obedience, Treibball, Tracking and Scent Games, AKC Canine Good Citizen, socialization and grooming too! To Do List For Puppy Parents!

Puppyhood is fun, brief and can be exhausting. Here's your To Do List to guide your puppy:

-Capture and reward attention to you! Introduce an attention cue when they understand the value in looking at you.

-Use a drag leash in the house and outside to guide and coach your puppy. This tool is essential for communication and safety.

-Exercise and train daily to physically and mentally fulfill your puppy. You will prevent unwanted behaviors!

-Crate train your puppy! This will assist you in house training and provide a safe space. After exercise, use the crate to teach your puppy to relax and nap.

Correction Is Necessary

Correction is necessary, it provides information that establishes boundaries and expectations.

Puppies receive corrections from their mother and littermates. Without corrrection, puppies don't understand what behavior is acceptable. Removing a puppy from its mother and littermates prior to 8 weeks of age can lead to adult dogs that can not navigate conflict. They often suffer from fearfulness, a lack of confidence and increased anxiety.

Dogs that receive well-timed, appropriate corrections from their handlers understand how to navigate human society and live happily and safely with their owners. Corrections must be consistent and paired with redirection to desired behavior.

Get professional help if you are stuck. The use of all four quadrants of operant conditioning results in effective training. We've helped hundreds of dogs! Let's get to work!

A crate is an essential tool! Your puppy/dog deserves their own safe space.

Blue Barn Ranch is often asked about crate training. Conditioning your puppy to a crate takes advantage of a dog's natural instinct to den. It becomes their safe place to rest and to be calm. It is an important tool in house training, preventing dogs from destructive chewing and it can limit activity in the case of injury or medical treatment. A crate can safely contain your dog while traveling, moving or in stressful situations like noisy parties or fireworks. Adult dogs with a negative association to crates can be counter conditioned. Get help if you need it!

Stopping A Dog Fight

Stopping a dog fight can be dangerous! Avoiding on leash greetings and loose dogs is preferable, but if a fight happens:

Don't yell or scream. It can escalate arousal. Avoid pulling dogs that are engaged apart, it often causes more damage.

Address the aggressor first!

If you are alone with no leash use one of these methods:

-Make a loud noise with your voice, an air horn or whistle.
-Control the airway by lifting collar up and twisting.
-Use a hose with significant water pressure.
-Create a visual block with a large, heavy blanket.
-Slide a physical barrier like a baby gate or heavy chair between.

If you are alone with a leash follow these steps:

-Make a slip leash by passing snap hook through the handle of the leash and secure the aggressor around the neck. You can improvise with a belt.
-Secure leash to a sturdy tree, post or piece of heavy furniture.
-Approach the second dog from behind, lift both back legs and "wheelbarrow" them back. Arc as you move away to avoid redirected aggression.
-Separate the dogs to calm them down.

If there are multiple adults, they should each gain control of their dog using the suggestions above. Intervene immediately and try to remain calm and methodical. Check injuries and seek medical attention!
