Fred was red listed at Devore shelter and was going to be euthanized last week. Snouts of Sedona pleaded with them for more time, and when we agreed that we could take him in on Monday, the shelter agreed to hold off. Fred was clearly someone's pet at some point, as his hooves and tusks are trimmed, and he is extremely friendly. He also appears to be over the age of 5. It breaks our hearts to think that someone who once cared about this boy, abandoned him...
Fred has a weak back end, possibly from being hog tied at the shelter, possibly from Osteochondrosis or arthritis. We are just glad that we had the space, and were able to save this poor boy in time.

Zoku's surgery was a success and we were able to pick him up at midnight! Since the initial total was for 48 hours, and they only kept him for 24 hours, about $5,000 was knocked off! We have never been so excited to see a $8,500 bill 😅
Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Some of you have met Zoku, and some haven't, but everyone who meets him can't help but fall in love (he had the whole medical staff rooting for him). He's definitely a very special boy. After a stroke, losing an eye, 8 years of arthritis, skin allergies, and so much more, we knew he was going to fight through this, and we couldn't give up on him. We are going to cherish every day he is still with us. ❤️

Last night, in what felt like only a few minutes, our sweet boy went from being totally fine to extremely uncomfortable. He wasn't acting right, and he looked and felt extremely bloated. After a few minutes he started gagging with nothing coming out, and we knew it was likely bloat, and rushed him to the emergency vet. They took him back immediately, and quickly confirmed that it was indeed bloat. Stomach torsion or "bloat," is a serious, life-threatening condition in dogs where the stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid, and then twists on itself. This twist cuts off blood supply to the stomach and other organs, potentially leading to tissue death and other complications. Luckily we caught it extremely quickly, and his prognosis was good. What we weren't anticipating however, was for the quote to be $16,000. With an $1,800 deposit already placed, and a 10% nonprofit discount, we were still looking at around $13,000. Zoku has been through so much in his 11 years of life, and no just wasn't an option. We signed everything, so he could immediately go into surgery, and knew we'd have to figure something out...
His surgery went well, and he is stable. We got to visit with him this morning, and he immediately ate his food that the staff couldn't get him to eat. We are hoping that he can come home late tonight, as long as his vitals and temperature remain stable. This is by far the largest vet bill we've ever faced, and we need help. If you are in a position to donate, please consider it! All donations are tax deductible, and we are putting some prizes together for a raffle for anyone that donates. We will try to come up with a shirt or other ways to fundraiser as well. If you aren't in a position to donate, please like, comment, and share, so this post can reach people who can. Your support means the world to us, and we wouldn't be able to do what we do without you.

Final bill will be posted once he is released.

Sound on! 🔊
We took in this poor lil sunburnt piggy, after she was roaming the streets alone in 98° heat.

Thank you to Snouts of Sedona for coordinating, and the shelter staff for transporting!

Just got a call from the Riverside shelter san Jacinto location. A baby piglet needs help. We are so lucky our friend, the amazing Kady Rose of Reject Ranch offered to help this baby. Please make sure to like her rescue and thank her for helping out in a moments notice. ❤️🐷❤️🐷

Please also spay and nueter your pigs. There are too many in need of homes already. 🙏🐷

In rescue, you never know what the day is going to entail!
Yesterday, we got a call about a baby turkey that wandered into an auto parts store off the main road in town. There are no houses nearby, just parking lot, commercial buildings, and a major intersection. Looks to be about a month old, and the poor thing is extremely skinny.
Then, a few hours later, we received a call about a chicken that had been scalped by her flock mates. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time we have seen this with chickens. She was surrendered, and we immediately cleaned and put SSD on her wound. All things considered, she's in good spirits and is already eating, digging, and sunbathing.

As you may have seen in our story, on Saturday, we loaded up and began the first leg of Yzma's nearly 2,500-mile journey to in Iowa.
This goodbye has been incredibly tough. After spending three months caring for Yzma around the clock, she became deeply ingrained in our daily routine. From her fragile beginnings to her current thriving state, we've experienced a wide range of emotions together. After the tragic loss of her brother, we latched onto Yzma even more for comfort. As a small sanctuary, we understood that Yzma needed more than we could provide in the long term. Given her rapid growth, it was inevitable that we'd soon be unable to lift her...
We can not express how excited and relieved we are that she's found an incredible new home. Lazy J's is everything we hoped for and more! But man, leaving Animal Place without her felt like getting hit by a bus 😅

That being said, we're so grateful for the cooperation of various sanctuaries nationwide that made this cross-country trip possible!

She's almost home! 🥹❤️
