Hey Everyone,
Farmer Alex here with a very important announcement about the future of Old City Acres.
After fourteen years of farming, fighting for local food access, and feeding the community, I have decided to retire from agriculture and will no longer be operating the farm, farmstand, or CSA going forward. This has been one of the toughest decisions of my professional career and personal life. I started the farm when I was only eighteen years old, and I’ve poured my entire life, soul, and purpose into feeding those around me and increasing access to local food for those in my community. I’m now at the point in my life that I need to focus on starting a family and making sure that I can be present in the lives of those around me. The amount of work it takes behind the scenes to keep the operation going is immense and relentless, and not conducive to the lifestyle I want to live with my family. In January, I’ll also be moving to Buffalo, New York with my wife Sarah and will be starting a new career in parks and natural resource management. I’m excited about getting back in nature and going back to school to further my education while laying the groundwork for the next chapter of my life. I’m beyond excited to take the energy and experiences I’ve learned over the last decade and a half and pour them into being the best new iteration of myself that I can be.
Old City Acres started literally in my grandma’s backyard growing veggies during summer break and transformed over the years into a year-round multi-farm CSA and in-person farm stand. Without all of your support and dedication to our project, I would not be where I am today, and I’m so thankful to have gone through and weathered all the ups and downs together over the years. The power of community can never be underestimated, and the success of the farm over the years directly proves what can be accomplished when people come together to support local food.
Moving forward current CSA members will be transferred to other local farms to continue receiving fresh local food while we finalize plans for the farm stand.
It's been an amazing ride, and I couldn't have done it without all of you.
