This is Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch. We are a small 501c3, licensed by the State of New Mexico and the NMLB, but with no staff or help due to our remote location.
This is Sonic, our latest rescue. Sonic looks healthy but unfortunately he is not!!!
Sonics story:
In June we received a call from a man in Las Vegas New Mexcio. He told us he just purchased a horse for $26,000. from a Texas, family owned, on line auction site. He sent us the auction listing confirming all he had told us to be true. Sonic was listed as a dream come true horse, riden by both children and adults, bomb proof, shown across the US, Sonic had given his life to this family bringing home over 100k in winnings on the circuit this past year....then he is suddenly sold.
Sonic is only 12 years old.
What Sonics new owner didn't know was that Sonic was carrying invisible burdens: severe medical conditions they were unprepared to treat. That’s when they reached out to us at Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch.
We will never turn away from an animal in need if we can help, so we agreed to take him in.
Sonic arrived a few weeks ago. Despite his pain, he is sweet, patient, and trusting. Thank you Dr. Bessie Babits, who performed an extensive examination and developed a treatment plan to help him begin healing. Your care and compassion is cherished and always gives us hope!
Sonic has been diagnosed with three serious conditions:
• Kissing Spine: A painful disorder where the bones in his spine pinch together, making even simple movements agonizing.
•Tested Positive for EPM (Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalitis): A debilitating neurological disease caused by a parasite transmitted through opossum f***s. Left untreated, EPM can lead to loss of coordination, weakness, and eventually death.
• Degenerative suspensory ligament disease (DSLD), a progressive and incurable condition affecting the suspensory ligament, causing them to weaken and potentially rupture.
Currently, there is no cure for DSLD so we will focus on managing the disease and improving Sonics quality of life.
If you can help us make a difference, one heart at a time...Sonics heart, please visit us at www.HorseshoeCanyonRescueRanch.org to learn more about our mission and donate if you can.
Sonic deserves a real chance at life; a chance to run pain-free, graze peacefully, and know kindness instead of fear. Due to Sonics medical needs he will remain at Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch to ensure he gets the medical care and love he needs and deserves.
We are hoping our loyal followers will help us by contributing to his care. Your donation today will help cover:
• Veterinary exams and diagnostic imaging
• Medication and treatment for EPM and Kissing Spine
and pain management for DSLD.
Thank you!
