Meet Teddy, a 30-year-old senior horse with a fighting heart and the soul of a sweet teddy bear. 🧸❤️

Teddy once worked hard for a ranch and is a gentle horse trusted with children. Somewhere along the way, his circumstances changed, and he ended up severely emaciated and in desperate need of help.

Thankfully, a true Good Samaritan stepped up and took Teddy into his care. This kind-hearted man has been doing everything he can to give Teddy a chance—providing feed, hay, love and veterinary care including his teeth floated.

Teddy has actually gained weight since coming into his care.

This Good Samaritan recently reached out to Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch because he knows Teddy needs more than he can provide long-term. He loves Teddy and wants what is best for him, but he also recognizes that he cannot give Teddy the forever home and specialized care this sweet guy deserves.

We are carefully managing our current intakes and resources, but when we learned about Teddy, we knew we had to see what we could do. We are willing to make every effort to find a way to bring this sweet senior into our care and give him the love, rehabilitation, and safe retirement he so desperately deserves.

Our biggest concern right now is transportation. Teddy is approximately 7 hours away from our ranch, and because of his condition and age, we are very concerned about putting him through such a long transport.

We are currently trying to connect with a licensed equine rescue closer to Teddy that may be able to step in, provide the care he needs, and hopefully offer him a forever home.

If we cannot find the right rescue closer to him, we may need another Good Samaritan to step forward and help donate or coordinate safe transportation to bring Teddy to Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch.

At 30 years old, Teddy has already given years of his life working hard and being a gentle friend to all. Now it's his turn to be loved, cared for, and simply be a horse.

He has the soul of a Teddy Bear.
And he deserves a chance to live out his golden years knowing he is safe. 🧸❤️🐴

The Best Birthday Surprise

What a fabulous way to start my birthday! 🎂✨

Wednesday morning while feeding the horses I was completely surprised when our dear friends Star and Greg showed up with the most thoughtful—and honestly, most fabulous—birthday gift: an 800-pound bale of grass hay… with a BIG beautiful bow on it!

Star York and Greg Russell knew that Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch is need of good grass hay for the 14 beloved equines who call our ranch their forever sanctuary. They knew exactly what would make my heart happiest—and they were absolutely right. ❤️

There are gifts that come with a bow, and then there are gifts that touch your soul. This one did both… and it will nourish our precious horses for days to come. 🐴

I am so incredibly grateful to Star and Greg who understand the heart of our rescue, who support what we do, and who know that sometimes the greatest birthday present comes in an 800-pound bale with a bow on top!

Thank you for filling my heart with so much happiness and our hay barn with much-needed beautiful grass hay!

A Tribute to Zack

Zack recently came to visit us from Ohio, having never been around horses before. He arrived with no expectations, no experience—just an open heart. None of us could have imagined the beautiful story that was about to unfold.

Then Zack met Braveheart.

Braveheart, our Spanish Barb Mustang Rescue, is the quietest and most timid in our sanctuary at HCRR, yet the most gentle of souls. He has always been the horse who hangs back, unsure of the world around him, carrying the scars of an early life that taught him to be afraid.

But from the moment Zack and Braveheart looked at each other, something changed.

It was as if they recognized one another. Braveheart, who so rarely lets anyone into his world, trusted Zack. And Zack fell completely in love with Braveheart. It wasn't something that could be explained—it was something you could feel. It was pure, honest, and magical.

Wanting only the best for his new friend, Zack at 14 years old, ordered a very special gift for Braveheart out of his own hard earned money, Braveheart's very own personalized harness. Zack said he wanted Braveheart to be brave and feel special.

It arrived today.

It wasn't just a beautiful gift; it was a beautiful promise. A promise that Braveheart was seen, valued, and loved by an exceptional young man.

Zack, thank you for reminding us that horses don't care how much experience someone has. They care about what's in your heart. You showed Braveheart patience, kindness, and quiet understanding, and he responded by giving you the greatest gift a rescued horse can offer—his trust. The way Braveheart lowered his head and licked your hand as you said goodbye gave us happy tears and the happiest of hearts.

We are so grateful that your journey brought you from Ohio to Horseshoe Canyon Rescue Ranch. Your connection with Braveheart touched us, it is a memory we will cherish for years to come.

Some people come into our lives for a reason. Some horses do too.

We believe Braveheart was waiting for you, and perhaps, without even knowing it, you were waiting for him.
