Pup date from our rescue president:
These little ones are fighters - there’s no greater definition of resilience than the pups shown here and the team that is helping them fight.

💔 Sarah gave the puppies who passed after birth names also because they deserve to be remembered: Asscher (m), Baguette (m), Cabochon (m), Zircon (m), & Briolette (f)

We are still in search of answers as to why Jem and her puppies struggled so much and why so many have passed. Jem’s vet believes she may have ingested antifreeze at some point in her pregnancy which could explain her inability to gain weight, her concerning blood work and the incredibly stressful and prolonged labor. Jem was also given a live vaccine at the shelter which is not recommended for pregnant dogs and may have contributed to the seizures, bloody diarrhea, and inability for her pups to gain weight.

They developed nasal discharge consistent with (according to the vet) distemper but we started antibiotics in case while we wait for pcr test results to come back. Whatever the cause, Sarah is looking for answers together with founder Carissa (don’t you love a collab?!?) and will ensure that the puppies have the best care possible.
