Happy Tuesday! Here's a Training Tip...

If "no" is not associated with a consequence, then "no" is meaningless to your dog. If "good" is not associated with a reward, then "good" is meaningless to your dog. In fact, ANY word you say to your dog NEEDS to have an association; otherwise, you're wasting your breath.

Happy Tuesday - Here's a Training Tip. Deal with behavioral issues nonverbally. Yelling "No" or "off" or "stop that" or "get down" does not correct the problem behavior permanently. If anything, your dog will get used to the yelling, or you will train your dog that it's permissible to engage in the problem behavior, but stop when you yell the word (no, off, stop, and etc).

Happy Thursday! Here's a Training Thought; It's heartbreaking to know there are copious shelter dogs waiting for a home. If you're house is already full, and you're unable to adopt, then you better make sure the dog you have is getting the best, most fulfilling life you can give.

Happy Thursday (again, I know I'm late) - here's a Training Thought: put your dog(s) in your schedule. A collage professor told me to put practice time in my schedule. I was a Freshman, and he was trying to put me on the right path. He told me, "don't leave empty blocks of time in your schedule and assume you'll practice, because you won't. Put practice time in your schedule."

So, I tell you all, put your dog in your schedule! Walks, play time, and/or some form of engagement. If it's scheduled, then it'll happen. Your dog(s) will appreciate it, and, most likely, your dog(s) has(ve) been waiting for you.
