Mac, Izzy and I have been playing out of my comfort zone a bit and learning two toy for retrieves via the Canemo retrieve course! I’m super impressed with the depth and quality of the course, it’s been a great investment!

Hello all!! It’s been a while!
Even though it’s still chilly out, this spring is off to a great start over here. We’ve had some absolutely massive life changing events (OWNING our farm for the first time, having a daughter 🥺❤️, titling multiple dogs, and having 2 (hopefully 3 🤞🤞) litters, to name a few) in the past few years.

With this new chapter, it feels appropriate to revitalize the pages for:

Comprehensive Canine

Sidetrack Farms
(Organic h**p and produce (introducing livestock in 2022 😍) farm in York, PA)

And Immergrün German Shepherd Dogs
(Focused on versatile, enjoyable, healthy companions!)

I’m hoping to keep up some momentum with posting what we’ve got going on so those who want to follow can, and those who want to get involved know where to find us!

We are now making and selling custom dog tag collars! These are not to clip a leash to, they are designed to be ID tag holders. The black section is reinforced elastic for easy on/off. See the video below for how they look in action!

When I tell people that I have eight dogs, the first question that they have is HOW?

Here's an example of how I use the Place command to change the energy of the house. Only three of the dogs (I'm sure you can guess which!) have been told to stay where they are, the other five are just reflecting that energy back. Note my breakfast plate at the edge of the photo, they were all relaxing in their spots through the entire cooking and eating process.

This is how we train for practicality.

It is much more efficient and effective to teach your puppy how to do the thing you'd like, rather than teach them not to do the thing you don't like.

For example, you could teach a dog not to jump to get attention, but what if the next attention seeking behaviour they tried was even worse? You'd have to start the training all over again to eliminate the new undesirable behaviour.

If you chose instead to teach a new behaviour to replace the one you'd like to get rid of - for example, you taught a jumping dog to sit politely to greet people - the training would go much faster and easier.

Here are some other practical examples of this strategy:

- Teach a begging dog to wait quietly on a rug away from the table
- Teach a demand barker to sit quietly to get attention
- Teach a dog who pulls on lead to walk next to you
- Teach a dog who howls for their dinner to go to their crate and wait quietly
- Teach a reactive dog to focus on their owner when they see another dog
- Teach a dog that barks when visitors arrive that the doorbell/knock means to go to their mat and wait quietly
- Teach a dog that whines to be let out to ring a bell instead
- Teach a dog that jumps uninvited onto people’s laps on the couch to ask politely by sitting and waiting for permission
