This beautiful girl was our female pick from Modelo’s second litter. When we realized she wasn’t going to be the right fit for our breeding program, we made the decision to find her the very best home possible. And we couldn’t have been more thrilled when the perfect person came along. It was love at first lick! As a first-time gun dog owner and handler, he had a little learning curve ahead of him. Taking the reins with her training didn’t come naturally at first, but we’ve always firmly believed in the value of training your own dog. With a little guidance, encouragement, and plenty of patience, we’ve watched his confidence grow. And right alongside him, hers has grown, too. Watching these two find their rhythm, build trust, and begin putting all the pieces together has been incredibly rewarding. Three birds up, two birds down. What a way to kick off the season! 🤎

Quill Feather’s Sea Dog “Maryn” continues to make great strides. Yesterday presented the perfect opportunity to call her off the bench and put her in the field guiding a hunt at Quill Feather Farm. She performed exceptionally well, locating all but one escapee from a mixed bag of eight birds, including both chukar and pheasants. But possibly more rewarding than her performance in the field is watching her confidence grow and seeing everything continue to click between Maryn and her owner/handler. 🤎

Quill Feather’s Benny has been up in Saskatchewan living every bird dog’s dream! Cranes, snows, specks, cacklers, and more…this pup is getting the experience of a lifetime, doing exactly what he was bred to do! As breeders, there are few things more rewarding than watching the pups you helped whelp grow into the dogs you hoped they would be given the opportunities to become. Seeing them in the field doing what comes naturally…and doing it well…is something pretty special. We are incredibly grateful to have found such amazing people for our pups. Knowing they are loved, appreciated, and given opportunities like this makes all the hard work worthwhile.🤎

Duck search with Quill Feather’s Purple Haze is coming along quite nicely. She understands the task at hand and does not give up. She searches with purpose and drive and almost always makes a recovery…or two. Today’s session was no exception. She is one of the most skilled duck search dogs I have seen at this age and I am excited to keep her training moving forward.

Quill Feather’s Sea Dog “Maryn” is flourishing with her handler, who has been trying to give her every opportunity to grow and expand. She’s become one hell of a duck search dog, and recently ran a brace in the field with Camo, who can be quite competitive. She didn’t cow tail to him and worked independently to find 2 of the 3 birds planted. Say what??!!

After a long weekend of being cooped up while the farm hosted a 3-day NAVHDA test, the Quill Feather crew was itching to get out and stretch their legs. A trip to the pond with the younger four proved fruitful not just in recoveries, but also from a training and experience perspective. At times, they worked both independently and as a team. The first to make a recovery was youngster, Dock…and he was also the second. Then the veteran, Morgan, delivered a third. This is my favorite activity to train for and I love watching the dogs learn on the fly.
