Salt & Light Pig Asylum A righteous man has kind regard for the life of his animal

“Pig people know… that mohawk isn’t always a warning sign. Sure, pigs can raise their hair when they’re startled or upset, but some of them do it when they’re absolutely loving life. ❤️

The other evening, Boss Hog’s mohawk was standing tall while he soaked up scratches and attention under the oak tree as the sun was setting. No worries, no stress—just a happy pig enjoying his evening.

It’s one of those little pig things that never gets old. 🐷💕🌅”

Nova’s story deserves to be told. ❤️🐷✨

Every evening, as the sun starts to set 🌅, the pigs come visit one by one. Tonight, Yukon wasn’t the only one looking for attention.

Nova wandered over too. 🐷💕

Not long ago, Nova lived in a small pen with nothing but a section of metal fence to lie on. No shelter. No comfort. No freedom. There wasn’t even a gate because she was never meant to leave that pen alive.

When I first met her, she would stand up against the fence, biting at it and looking out, as if she knew there had to be something more beyond those panels. 💔

I couldn’t stop thinking about her, and eventually I convinced her owners to let me buy her.

Today, she’s safe. ❤️

The frightened, thin pig with no muscle tone has become one of the sweetest souls at the sanctuary. She has the softest brown eyes, giant ears that remind me of an elephant 🐘, and a gentle way of asking for scratches that melts my heart every time. 🥹

In tonight’s video, she walks right up while I’m visiting with Yukon, leans in for snuggles, and soaks up every bit of affection she can get. 🐷💕🤗

Sometimes the biggest transformations aren’t physical. They’re watching an animal who once had no future finally realize they are loved. ❤️🐷✨

🌻🐾💕

🐷❤️ The pigs may love me more, but this sanctuary wouldn’t exist without him. ❤️🐷

When I fell in love with pigs, Mark could have run for the hills. Instead, he helped build fences, haul feed, transport pigs, brush pigs, scratch pigs, and occasionally surrender his vehicle and living room

No, he’s probably not their favorite human (that’s still me 😜), but our mission wouldn’t be what it is today without him.

And for that, the pigs and I are very grateful. ❤️🐷

🐷💦 Before and After: Pig Edition 💦🐷

Some of the residents apparently felt that today’s spa treatment should begin with a full-body mud wrap. One pig took that commitment very seriously. 😂

After rolling, rooting, and achieving peak swamp-creature status, bath time was officially declared. The result? A whole herd of much cleaner pigs looking far more respectable than they did a few hours earlier.

Of course, if you’ve ever had pigs, you know this cleanliness is temporary. They’ll spend all day getting scrubbed only to immediately start planning their next mud adventure. 🤦‍♀️🐷

But for a brief moment, they were fresh, shiny, and looking pretty proud of themselves.

❤️🐷 Life at Salt & Light Pig Asylum: where the mud is free, the baths are mandatory, and the pigs always have the final say.

The other day I was trying to fill the pools for the big pigs, but they had other ideas. 🐷💦

One by one they started showing up, laying down in the mud, rolling onto their sides, and looking at me like they had appointments scheduled for personal spa treatments.

What started as pool maintenance quickly turned into a full-service pig wash. And honestly, when a 500-pound pig flops down in front of you and waits to be sprayed, you just go with it.

Needless to say, the pools got filled… eventually. 😂❤️🐷

💚🐷🌿💦✨

This is my granddaughter and Ron 9 years ago. 💕

Ron was an FFA pig 🐷He was raised for one purpose… but I loved him too much to let that be the end of his story. 🤍

At the time, I had no idea what saying “yes” to one pig would become. 🌱

Ron wasn’t just a pig. He was “the pig”. 🐽✨

The one that changed everything. 💚

He showed me that pigs are so much more than people think—smart 🧠, gentle 🌸, emotional 🥹, funny 😂, loyal 🤎… and capable of deep bonds.

These two especially had something special. 💕 They explored creeks together 🌿💦, splashed in the water 🌊, wandered side by side 🐷👧, and trusted each other completely.

Ron had this quiet sweetness about him that made people stop and see pigs differently. 🥹🐽

Looking back now… I honestly think Ron planted the seed. 🌱

No Ron… no pig obsession. 🐷❤️
No pig obsession… maybe no sanctuary. 🏡🐽✨

One pig became many. One life changed countless others. 💚

And I’ll always be grateful I loved him enough to let his story continue. 🌿🤍🐷

(And I’d like to think Ron would be pretty proud of the beautiful chaos he started 😆💚🐽)

One year ago Martha, Mary, and Lazarus came to us with a plan: get fixed and find new homes. 🐷✨

Well… they got fixed. The new homes part never happened. 😂

So here we are one year later celebrating their Gotcha Day and accepting that apparently they already found home. 🤎

Happy Gotcha Day to three muddy little permanent residents that somehow never left… and we’re okay with that. 🐽🩷

🖤🏡 BELLA UPDATE 🏡🖤

What a good girl today. Bella loaded beautifully, traveled well, and unloaded like a champ. ❤️

After a long day on the road and a lot of teamwork, this sweet girl is finally settling into her forever home. We know transitions can be big, but she handled today with so much grace and we’re feeling really hopeful for her future.

Huge thank you to everyone who helped make this happen — from transport coordination to opening your hearts and homes. These days can be long and emotional, but seeing animals safely arrive where they’re meant to be makes every mile worth it.

Now we’re headed back home with full hearts and tired bodies. 🐷🚐💕

Happy life, Bella. We’ll be cheering you on from afar. 🖤✨

🚐🐷 Today we hit the road for a long pig transport to help another rescue and another piggy.

The van is loaded, the bedding is down, and we’re hoping to give one pig a safer future and a softer landing. 💙

If you pray, we would appreciate prayers for:
🤎 Safe travels there and back
🤎 Calm weather and good roads
🤎 Easy, stress-free loading
🤎 Smooth unloading and a peaceful arrival
🤎 A calm pig and calm humans 😅
🤎 Protection over everyone involved

These transport days can be long and exhausting, but every mile feels worth it when an animal gets a better outcome.

Say a little prayer for our crew today. We’ll keep y’all updated. 🐷✨

💙
