The more you know...

An eartip is not “ugly”, but rather, shows someone cared enough to have the cat altered and vaccinated. 😻 Surely the cat doesn't care that part of his ear is missing, since it is painless. Only humans (in all our vanity) care that the cat doesn't look like all the other cats. Look past the eartip, the size of the eartip, the angle of the eartip. None of that matters as much as the fact that someone took the time to have the cat altered. ❤️

The following text provided by bestfriends.org:

There are kind people around the country who keep an eye on community cats in their neighborhoods, helping to get the cats fixed through TNR programs. Ear-tipping allows them to tell from a distance whether or not a community cat has been spayed or neutered. That tipped ear saves the cat the stress of being trapped and anesthetized a second time.

Ear-tipping can also help anyone who is feeding the cats keep track of them, and notice if a new cat has joined the community. And it lets animal control officers know that a cat benefitted from TNR and has been seen by a veterinarian. In short, an ear-tip tells everyone that the cat has someone who has invested time and resources in his or her well-being.

One of our rescue partners, TNR Efforts for Ferals of Lincoln and Warren county posted this and it is so important we wanted to make sure to put on our FB page as well!

Many of us may think blankets or fleece would be perfect to keep animals warm, but it can be very dangerous.

We're thrilled to announce that we've received an incredible grant of $9,000 from the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation in Sheridan, AR for spaying/neutering of free roaming community cats. This will fund surgeries and Rabies vaccines for between 237-360 more cats in our communities right away and prevent thousands of kittens from being born unwanted without homes. Our thanks to AARF for their wisdom and foresight in funding spay/neuter to stop pet overpopulation and animal suffering!

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) sets up outdoor cats to succeed so shelters and rescues can focus on the cats who are not prepared to live outside a home. TNR is just one of 4 programs that need to function and thrive to have optimal control over reproducing cat populations.

Low/No cost spay neuter access to the public and rescues.
T-N-R (TRAP-NEUTER-RETURN)
Foster / Adoption Capacity
Return-to-Field / Shelter-Neuter-Return.

We also need every rescue to embrace and instantly fix any pregnant cat. Immediate, no conditions. Allowing fosters to care for litters that could have been prevented, results in more suffering for kittens already born outside. It is negligent and a huge part of the problem.

Every piece plays a role. Every piece must have sustained simultaneous functioning programs.

As we look to finding an end to breeding cat overpopulation. None if this happens without powerful and thoughtful collaborative programs and standards.

A new kind of trap for those friendlies that will come around, but not sure whether they can be handled safely. We don't have a Place Over trap yet, but may consider getting one.

This is what we refer to as a "train tunnel". When trying to get mama cat we use the kittens as bait. The kittens are placed in a carrier, a trap is set in front of it. The entire trap & carrier are covered in order that the mama can hear the kittens & has to go down the little tunnel to get to them. Works like a charm every time!

Repeat call I get.
"There is a stray cat that showed up here a few months back. I felt sorry for it and started feeding it. I still can't touch it, it runs. Now I have a litter of 6 babies in my garage HELP. Can you come get them ?"

First of all, thank you so much for noticing the kitty and providing food. Your kindness is much appreciated.
Second I wish you had called when kitty first showed up. Now the entire process is compounded by kittens survival time frames, more "ferals" in the population as there are no resources to house and socialize kittens for adoption. Plus, now my expenses went from 1 spay to 7 !..
See how it works ?
