When it is late at night and you'd like to try to sleep but the Fluffster, also known as Otto, has other plans. He loves to snuggle in my lap and hold me hostage. Can't help but love him, whoever adopts this guy will be getting an amazing companion. Side note: everyone one of my animals and fosters have a bunch of nicknames and their own personal theme songs. I usually tell the adopters all about them at adoptions. 🤣

Yesterday we received word that Marshall may have slipped put of his foster to adopt home. We were praying it wasn't true and he had just found a really good hiding place, but it is highly probable at this time he did. He went missing from the Glenmoor Green Apartments between Tieton Drive and Nob Hill Blvd. He can be skittish of new people so if you see him please do not chase him. He is a 2 year old neutered male with a distinct half mustache and is microchipped to Southern Heart. His potential adopter is heartbroken as am I, but accidents happen and we are praying for a good outcome. We are trying to arrange getting one of my traps over there without me being able to take it. I can't with how adorable this is! Junipurr was enjoying a nice nap in the basket when Otto decided she needed to share and she actually did. 😲 They're still in there all curled up together and beyond adorable! Both are available for adoption but Otto has a bit of upper respiratory infection we are fighting off. On a more serious note, I am down with COVID. I had a horrible migraine Monday and Tuesday which is normal but started to have other symptoms Tuesday and thought it would be best to test as I spend a lot of time working with the public. Wednesday the test came back positive. Yesterday the husband had symptoms and today he is positive. We are quarantining, nothing too bad on my end just monitoring things to make sure it doesn't cause issues with underlying conditions. Energy is even lower than normal though so if I'm not posting or responding, I apologize. We will be switching kitties at the habitat tomorrow so stay tuned for that and please keep supporting our ongoing fundraisers both with Krispy Kreme and Facebook! This kind of nonsense and cowardice pi**es me off beyond belief. Some "well meaning person" who has never spent a moment running an animal rescue or having a relationship inside a store to have the cats seen seems to want to tell me how to run my rescue. We do not make the store set up, the table their is for customers to fill out applications, and the only thing blocking the cats is the dog training ring which is not Petco's fault either. We have a small store and do everything in our power to draw attention to the cats which is why I spend countless hours and my own personal finances to change the habitat constantly and make it colorful, eye catching, and cheerful. Keeping the cats in the habitat for the length of time we do gives them an opportunity to be seen but their well-being is closely monitored by myself and my volunteers. They are loved on endlessly, constantly have new treats, and enrichment, and IF they cannot handle the habitat they are immediately pulled. But lady, if you are following me and chose to leave these note please see yourself out and PLEASE start your own animal rescue. Try and do better. I will not be shamed by any idiots in this town and challenge them to do better. I'll he waiting. Until then, I'm going back to loving my fosters, thanking my amazing volunteers, and thanking my relationship with my Petco store and the Petco Love foundation for allowing our kitties to be seen.

Sweet little Spirit so moved to foster to adopt with her potential new Mommy. She is the last of her siblings awaiting a chance at a forever home and was very ready to leave! This sweet girl will have all the attention and snuggles she can get and I am hopeful that she too has found her forever!

Yesterday was such a beautiful day! I got to meet these gorgeous souls and watch Agatha and Banks go into foster to adopt with them! Banks is our panluek survivor from last year and if you remember, Agatha and her sister's were also exposed and had to be monitored and quarantined as well. I prayed hard this day would come for him and her but there was a time I thought I would never see it. It truly was wonderful getting to tell them all about these two who truly love each other and have formed such a strong bond at my home. I hope within the next two weeks I get to say they're getting their adoption finalized and have their forever home! 🤞 I personally think this couple will love these two just like I have and they will be spoiled rotten!

On Wednesday, we let my almost 16 year old labbie be at peace. I am so broken and the house feels empty without my best friend. I was so blessed to have so many years with such an amazing best friend.

Sweet, gorgeous Valentine is still awaiting her purrfect forever home. This young adult lady is a quiet girl and would do best in a quieter home without children or with older children. She doesn't mind dogs but would be best suited for a home with only one, maybe two other cats or no others. She can get a bit jealous sharing her people from time to time. She LOVES attention and will shower you in affection. At home, she likes to hang out on the back of my husband's chair and soak up pets and follow me all over. She enjoys yummy food, treats, and of course sleeping in your bed. She is at Petco in the habitat currently but won't be there too much longer before getting a break, so head down to meet her today! 💗 I will be getting her listed on Petfinder asap so will share her link as soon as I do. She does have a special lowered adoption fee as she is a long term resident after getting ringworm in the habitat the last time she was there. Please share her far and wide to help her find her furever home. 🐾

How has gorgeous Mama Midnight not received one adoption application?! This stunning lady was an incredible Mama and is an even better kitty. She loves people and will follow you all over the house to collect love. 🖤 She does well with most cats and doesn't mind dogs. She hasn't lived with kiddos but we believe she would do good with them as she is used to my craziness, carrying her all over, and smothering her in kisses. She LOVES her foods! Midnight has been hanging in the Petco habitat and you can say hi to her there and find adopti#adoptablecat on applications. This girl will truly be an amazing addition to someone's home. Help me share her far and wide, please. She is ready for her forever home!

It is with deep, deep sorrow I announce the passing of my beloved Freyja. I am so broken, I have no words. Since the moment I rescued Freyja I have been through hell for her. Fighting to undue what was done to her, fighting to get her healthy, and losing. Always losing. Medication after medication, vet appointment after vet appointment, nothing changed. After our last "second" opinion which was really our third opinion the vet believed it is something else entirely. Not cerebral hyperplasia but possibly a brain tumor causing the herpes to ravage her body, causing the weight loss, causing the neurological issues, causing her incontinence. Something I can't fix no matter how hard I love her. I was supposed to let her be at peace Monday but I was too weak. She spent that night before holding onto me, purring loudly, and looking at me with pure love in her eyes. Yesterday, I had to be strong and let Freyja Jean take another part of my heart. I don't know how my life will look without her in it but I know she needed my strength. If you have any strength to spare, please send it my way. I need it. I have loved her as my own since I met her and she will leave this Earth as my own. I love you Freyja Jean. Thank you for enriching my life, loving me, and making me a stronger animal rescuer. 🖤

Everything is a little less bright without her presence at home. I don't have the words to express home much she will be missed. Thank you Tieton Drive Animal Clinic for letting her be at peace. We desperately need community support, as while we we were expecting this expense, we were not expecting the total cost.

Bell is another one of our amazing adoptable kitties that would be best in a single kitty home or adopted with one of his few friends here. He is very cat selective and unfortunately, him and Marshall hate each other and are fostered with me. He is the SWEESTEST boy and loves attention but is prone to a little mischief if he doesn't have enough love or enrichment. He enjoys all the pets and rolls around like a goofball making sure you get all the good spots! He likes his belly rubbed and of course his chin, and gives little kisses and chomps when he is happy. He enjoys a good scratch or a climb on a cat tree or a scratcher but his favorite hobby is one we definitely share, sunbathing! You can always find him in the window catching the best rays. ☀️ He does well with my dogs and has lived indoor/outdoor before. If you have followed the page for sometime, you will remember he suffered abuse by his previous owners and at the hands of truly evil strangers so he can be nervous at first with new people. He is good at getting under your feet when trying to get your attention so if you are prone to tripping, like me, we do not think he would be a good fit. Is Bell perfect, no, but he is perfectly imperfect and deserves a loving forever home that wants a quirky boy that will fill your home with happiness. Please help me share this boy far and wide so he gets adopted! If you are open to adopting two kitties we have other long term adoptables he loves like Laredo, Lubbock, and little Claudette. ❤ Scroll back on the page to see them, but I will be posting them soon as well.

Sweet Marshall has been in rescue with us since he was a baby, but has always been passed over for adoption. We cannot figure out why. This gorgeous boy is so sweet and silly. He loves to play, be with his people, and find the biggest most comfy beds to nap in. He is best suited to live in a single cat home but does well with dogs. He loves to snuggle up with them on their beds. He loves finding the warm sun rays to lay in and work on his tan. He is such an amazing kitty and it is such a shame he hasn't found his forever home. His adoption fee is reduced to only $50, and he is neutered, vaccinated, treated for fleas/ear mites, and has a microchip. I can't think of anything cuter than finding Mama Manxsy snuggling with one of her babies, Merry in the vintage cradle. 😍 Both girls are adults now and still searching for their forever homes. Manxsy's youngest baby (she was difficult to trap..) Banks is still available for adoption too. All three have different, unique, and loving personalities that are perfect for all kinds of forever homes.

Today was BUSY and exhausting but, so worth it! Three of the Spooky litter kittens were blessed with amazing forever homes. 😊 The twins Herman and Fester are headed to live up in the mountains with their amazing new Mom and Dad who were so patient with us while we were handling my health and the kittens health at the same time. I am so grateful those goofy boys get to live their entire lives playing together, they truly are best friends. Their sister, Wednesday is staying local with a wonderful family with kiddos that love animals and understand the responsibility of pet ownership. She is going to be their 10 year old's special kitty and gets the cutest new name too! She is now Kiki! All three babies are still under our medical care and we will continue to cover medical treatment/costs until the initial issue has resolved, but both families were comfortable finishing the course of medication and ready to bring their babies home. I am going to miss all three of my silly kitties terribly, but am so grateful for incredible adopters and the ability to rescue more thanks to them. This just leaves little Miss Spirit from the Spooky litter waiting for her forever home! Happy tails babies and thank you again to all of today's adopters! 🖤

If you have spent any time in Petco you'll likely recognize this beautiful lady, she is one of the wonderful employees there and someone I am blessed to call a friend, a rescue supporter, and a previous adopter. 💗 When she lost one of her babies from us we all mourned but she knew if her family were ever ready to open their hearts again, I would have a list of deserving kitties waiting for a home as special as theirs. When she reached out recently my mind went to a few but settled on Tank, Banks' brother who just recently came available. His purrsonality just seemed like a fantastic fit for her pup and other Southern Heart kitty, and trust me he has purrsonality in spades! Today she met him and he moved to foster to adopt, so everyone at Southern Heart has their paws crossed that it is a purrfect fit for Tank, Erin, and her family! Good luck buddy and thank you Erin for trusting me again to find another family member! 💗

It has been a busy and expensive week so far at Southern Heart. On Tuesday we spent over $1,000 at Tieton Drive Animal Clinic on Freyja and the remaining Spooky Litter kittens. The kittens needed fecals as they suddenly had diarrhea, revolution, and rabies vaccines. Freyja, I was honestly expecting to lose, over the weekend she got really ill again and after a long talk with the vet, we decided to run another feline leukemia test as well as another blood panel on her. Poor Frejya has never been healthy or adoptable and has honestly tried nearly every medication available. She does well for a while but is always sickly. Thankfully, her feline leukemia test was negative and her blood panel was good minus being a bit dehydrated. We decided to throw everything we could at her to try to ease her suffering so she is on two eye medications, an antibiotic, a steroid, an appetite stimulant, and we are waiting for another med to get ordered. She has been through so much in her life and I am hoping this helps, if not we will be letting her little body be at peace. We are seriously hurting for funding right now, so if you can donate please do every dollar helps these amazing animals. Our bank account is very close to zero and we are in need of food, litter, and our renewal for our P.O. Box is due. Hi everyone. 🖤 Nina here, the founder of Southern Heart Animal Rescue. It has been a long time since I posted and I just wanted to take a moment to apologize and explain. Last year my health really deteriorated and each new medication the doctor's tried made my conditions worse. So Southern Heart had to take a backseat while I fought for my life. Thanks to amazing volunteers we continued to work behind the scenes keeping kitties at Petco, caring for so many cats in foster, and even moving some lucky animals into foster to adopt. The new year came and while the medications have stopped trying to end my life my health has not improved. I continue to fight but have had to come to terms with the fact that after nearly 20 years in animal rescue I have severe compassion fatigue. Recently, my family lost one of my personal cats and are preparing to let my nearly 17 year old lab go to rest. The grief is hard to bear and I am burned out dealing with all the suffering and abuse, listening to the public berate us because we don't have space for unlimited animals, stressing daily on where we are going to find the funds for vet bills, food and litter, and holding the animals we can't save as they take their last breath. It is something I never thought I would face and something I have to work through. Luckily, I am blessed with the most amazing animals of my own plus my fosters that shower me in love and try nonstop to heal my heart. ❤ Earnest, pictured here, has become my rock. He is always there to give me snuggles and kisses, let me cry on him when I need to, and make me laugh when I need it the most. I am happy to say Earnest has found a forever home with us. As for the future of Southern Heart...

I would love for Southern Heart to continue for many years to come but we desperately need the community's support. We need more volunteers both for the Petco habitat and in my home. We need volunteers who have experience in event planning, web design, grant writing, and administrative tasks. I can no longer do most everything on my own. 2023 needs to be the year Southern Heart really grows. If you have experience in any of those areas or even areas not listed, please contact me. We have done a lot of good for Yakima and the surrounding areas over the years and I know there is still a huge need for this rescue. Right now my focus is trying to get back to running the rescue, recruiting amazing new volunteers to join our family, and getting the cats that have been in rescue too long adopted. Intake is closed until we can get our numbers down, but we will continue TNR. I will be posting our adoptables here and working on Petfinder as well. The Petco habitat will have kitties being rotated in frequently again and there are new kitties there now! With your help, 2023 can be an amazing year for Southern Heart. So please volunteer, share posts, donate, and adopt. ❤

How is it even feasible that these three gorgeous girls have had no adoption interest? It is almost time for the last to come back to their foster from Petco. So if one of these sweet, insanely loving, and playful beauties catches your eye, run down to Petco to meet them today. Just please keep your fingers out of the habitat, please. Everyone, meet Bell. Bell joined my household this week and came from the same area where the kitten was purposely ran over. Bell was a stray that was brought into a home and given a family. He was still allowed to roam, unaltered, though and another psychopath apparently took it upon themselves and ran his foot over with a bicycle. A normal family would have got him medical treatment when he showed back up at the back door injured, but these people did not. They denied him medical treatment for over a month and cast him permanently outside, deeming him suddenly "dirty." This faithful boy has been sleeping curled up outside their backdoor each night. I've said it before, but people can be utter trash and so undeserving of an animals love. The family I am helping with TNR named him Bell due to the collar he previously wore from his "family." At clinic his foot was looked at and while she couldn't determine if it was soft tissue damage or a bone break, she did clean his foot up and give him a shot of Covenia to treat the bad infection he has. He is now safe, loved, and has me wrapped around his paw. He will never be treated cruelly again. So welcome this talkative boy, Bell, to Southern Heart! ❤ He will be seeing our local vets asap to determine the treatment plan for his foot. Until then he is on crate rest and being spoiled rotten.

I get calls and messages every single day and night asking for help with feral cats, but rarely so I find a family willing to do so much to help them. This family, that resides at the TNR site, is a family of cat warriors. They will do anything to protect these cats and ensure they have a better life. This baby lost it's sibling when some psychopath intentionally ran it over and then attempted to cover up the sick act. Thanks to this amazing family, this baby will be safe at Southern Heart. Look at that trap method! I have never seen someone work a net so skillfully! We need more families like this willing to put in the work for these community cats! TODAY THIS MOM CAT CAME TO EAT AND BRINGS THREE BABY KITTENS AND IT APPEARS TO BE PREGNANT AGAIN, COULD YOU HELP ME RESCUE THEM, IT IS WINTER SEASON AND BOTH THESE KITTENS AND THOSE WHO ARE ABOUT TO BE BORN SUFFER FROM THE INTENSE COLD, THE MOM CAT COULD FIX HERSELF AND TO LET GO AGAIN, I WISH YOU CAN HELP... I caught one today in a animal trap.

Do you take cats that have been abandoned at a house and have become semi wild. I don't think they would bite or scratch because I was able too pet one of them and have been taking food too then.

I am checking to see if you might have room for 5 kitties. Two appear to be about 6 months old and the other 4 are younger than that. They showed up at my work place about 2 weeks ago. 1 of them is very friendly and others are kinda skittish but are getting braver. My office is in Yakima on North 1st. I am happy to help with food and a donation to help get these babies good homes.
