I'd love to shift the idea of what is "normal" or "okay" when it comes to dogs' nails! Every day, I see people who think their dogs have "decent nails" or that they "don't need them trimmed," yet they're walking on neglected, overgrown claws. If you look at your dog's nails (when the dog is standing), if the nails are touching the ground, then they are way too long! Nails the correct, healthy length for your K9 (regardless of size) have ZERO ground pressure when the dog is standing. Anything else is way less than ideal! Short claws up off the ground allow your dog's paw-mechanics to work their best. It also reduces injury and strain during activity and play!
