With the ribbon keychains getting so much attention again, I think it's time to have some hard conversations.
I’ve had a few people feel discouraged about my bulk discount pricing on ribbon keychains, and I want to gently explain why it looks the way it does.
I am not Amazon. I’m not a warehouse. I’m not a production facility pumping out thousands of units a day with automated machines and pallets of inventory.
I can create 5 keychains in 40 minutes. These are not lucrative for me. I only created these for a vendor event in April because I thought they would be cute. I never expected them to take off. If you order one or one hundred, I am physically touching every single one of them. Embroidering, hole punching, assembling, checking, and packaging. Every step is done by me.
As a small business owner, I can only store so much material. I cannot order in massive quantities to drive the price down to pennies per unit. I purchase thoughtfully, I create intentionally, and I refuse to put out junk just to make something cheaper.
Quality matters to me. What I ship out represents my name and my work. I inspect each piece because I want it to last. I have re-done many pieces because they don't meet my standards. I want you to open your package and feel proud to gift it or keep it.
When someone is disappointed that my pricing can’t compete with big-box or mass-produced items, it does sting a little. This is how I pay my bills. This is how I support my family and my horses. My pricing isn’t inflated — it reflects time, materials, care, and sustainability. Ultimately, I should be charging more than $10 for a fully customized gift.
Bulk orders absolutely receive consideration, but the reality is that my hands are still on every single piece.
If you choose to shop small with me, please know you’re not just buying a keychain. You’re supporting craftsmanship, intention, and a real person behind the scenes. I'm that small business owner who does a little dance every time an order comes through.
Thank you so those who have purchased from me, and if it's not something you can do - a simple comment, like, or share means just as much.
