It is important for a cat sitter to get the cat/kitty to like them as soon as possible. This can obviously be tricky.
A method that I use is I hold out my hand, palm faced to me and I put my hand near to their face. I then either turn away or close my eyes.
By not looking at what the cat is doing, I prevent my instincts from causing my hand to jerk away when the cat starts sniffing my fingers. This allows the cat to remain relaxed, get to know my scent, and recognize that the cat is fuly in control of the situation; as any cat likes to be.
