On Monday, we had to say goodbye to our beautiful boy, Sam.
He was 16 years old, and although I knew this day would come eventually, nothing really prepares you for it.
This week has been a blur of tears, guilt, relief, sadness, gratitude and memories. One minute I'm looking at photos and smiling, the next I'm full on crying again.
There is a hole in our hearts.
For so many years, Sam was simply part of everything. He was there through family milestones, business milestones, good days, bad days and all the ordinary moments in between.
One of the hardest parts has been questioning whether we made the right decision, even though deep down we know we did. As dog owners, we carry the responsibility of making that final choice for them, and it is a burden that comes from a place of love.
What brings me comfort is knowing that Sam didn't know fear, or guilt, or heartbreak. He only knew that he was loved. And now im crying again.......
And he was loved deeply.
Right now, I'm trying to be kind to myself and allow myself to grieve. Not rush it. Not hide from it. Just take it one day at a time.
If you've lost a dog, you'll understand that they leave pawprints on your heart that never really fade.
Thank you for 16 wonderful years, Sam. ❤️🐾
I miss you more than words can say.
