My last post was written following a Spring snowstorm and just two days after Easter, so the pictures were very winter like in appearance. Now, the snow has nearly disappeared, leaving only a quickly melting snowbank that once provided hours of entertainment for the dogs. These pics are much more Spring like with a few sunrises and sunsets in the background. Among the pics are a couple of new faces that include Crowley, a Goldendoodle and Bowser, a Bernedoodle, and a little Boxer mix puppy named Harry. Harry has been coming for daycare once a week as preparation for a longer stay in the future. Initially, he had a strong desire to return to the car when he arrived, testing the tensile strength of his leash, but when you’re only 20+ lbs. the leash is going to win. Things have changed now, and during his most recent stay he eagerly got out of the car and was ready to meet his playmates. I think he’ll be more than ready when the time comes for his longer stay. Ukko was back for a daycare stay also. Ukko is a very beautiful/handsome fluffy white Samoyed. Ukko is a work in progress as we're working on his seperation anxiety. He is getting better each time, so I think we'll get there.

I wanted to share a few photos highlighting some of the borders that were here over the Easter weekend. This particular Easter stands out and is unlikely to be forgotten soon, as we experienced approximately 12 inches of snow within a three-day span. The pictures I am sharing include scenes that show the progress of snow melting before the Easter weekend, as well as others that appear as though they were taken in January due to the snowfall we received. Mother Nature is keeping her grip on winter and keeps feeding our big snowbank. I thought I was joking when I said the snowbank might last until June. The only new comer this time is Talvi, a fluffy tri-colored Australian Shepherd. One of the dogs posted here, is still here, so I am referring to him as "John Doe" to protect his identity. Also, I included a pic of a couple Canadian Geese flying over the play area. Every day, twice a day (early morning & dusk) a variety of geese and other migrating birds fly over our property. Vernal bird migration around Wrenshall begins in March and peaks in May as birds move north along the Mississippi Flyway, utilizing the St. Louis River corridor for refueling. Sometimes in the evening they're moving when it's already dark, "navigating with the stars, the Earth's magnetic field, and polarized light"...I had to look that part up.

Although it would be nice if these photos of dogs playing on the large snowbank were just an April Fool’s prank, the reality is that the snowbank is still very much present. Despite some minimal melting, the snowbank remains strong and shows little sign of disappearing soon. According to the latest weather reports, it might even grow in size over the weekend. If the forecast proves accurate, you might still be seeing pictures of it well into June. The dogs truly love playing on it, and it is clear that they will miss it when it finally melts away. Those you’ll see enjoying the snowbank are, Jack, Maizey, Brutus, Daisy, Millie, Richard, along with newcomers, Cocoa (German Shorthair Pointer), Bert (Collie/Poodle mix), Bernard (Peekapoo), Crystal (Silver lab) & Lucy (Old English Sheepdog). Other newcomers to the kennel, included, Belle (Blackmouth Cur), and Ricco (Siberian Husky). Buddy, Tala and Kaiser stopped by for a visit, too, but I missed out on getting photos of them. I think they are all scheduled for future visits, so I’ll be able to make up for my oversight. Hope everyone enjoys the upcoming Easter weekend…no matter the weather.

I can’t believe it’s been almost a month since my last post. It’s been busy here and time goes by fast. I have some new customers to introduce to you this go around, starting with Moose. Moose came here with Binks who had boarded here last February. Moose, a Black Lab mix was full of energy and kept Binks on his toes. Binks had no trouble letting Moose know when he had enough of his horseplay. I think Binks was always happy to get back to his own kennel when they got back inside. Another new customer was, Freya, a German Shepherd mix. This was Freya’s first boarding experience and she did great. She really enjoyed her play time with the other dogs. Gus, a very handsome pitbull mix, was also a first timer here and a first-time boarder. He was just here for a one-night stay, but that was long enough for me to see what a sweet boy he is. Meika, an Australian Cattle dog mix, also had never boarded here before and came for a daycare stay to see how she would do…she did awesome. She arrived shy with her tail between her legs and left confident with her tail held high. HoneyBee, a Chihuahua and Zero, a Pappilon, were new here too, and HoneyBee holds the distinction of the smallest dog I’ve ever boarded here (Penny, another Chihuahua comes in at a close second). HoneyBee and Zero were here when we had some wind gusts in the 40s and 50s. I seriously considered weighing them down with a brick as I was sure they were both going to blow away in the wind. I was impressed with their willingness and ability to meet the conditions head on. Thea, another German Shepherd mix, was also a new customer. Thea was very chill and took everything in stride. She loved her time outside playing with the other dogs. And last but not least, was Blue. Blue, a very young (5 month old) English Springer Spaniel can be best described as “wiggly”. There always seemed to be some body part in motion. My goal with Blue was to get him as tired out as possible and with the help of some of the other dogs, mission accomplished. Everyone else in this post you may recognize from their previous stays. The large snowbank in the play area has been a prominent feature in many of the photos. The dogs have absolutely loved climbing and playing on the hill, making the most of the snowy conditions. It’s proven to be a source of endless entertainment—simple, but so much fun for everyone. Enjoy the day today, it sounds like we're in the path of yet another dumping of snow. The snowbank will live on!
