Today, we celebrate our one year anniversary! How has one year gone by so quickly? We thank you all for making this year absolutely wonderful! Summer is in full swing, which means more time outside with our pets. Whether you're heading to the lake, taking a road trip, or simply enjoying the backyard, a few simple precautions can help keep your furry family members safe all season long.

Make sure your pets always have plenty of fresh water, avoid walking them on hot pavement during the heat of the day, and never leave them unattended in a parked vehicle. Summer is also a great time to stay current on flea and tick prevention, prepare for afternoon thunderstorms, and keep potentially harmful chemicals safely out of reach.

Meet Ringo! He’s lending his adorable face to an important conversation about feline health! Thank you to Ringo’s family for sharing this adorable picture!

Your cat’s health starts with knowing what’s happening beneath the surface, and combo testing helps provide those answers. Feline Leukemia (FeLuk)/ Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) combo testing is recommended for all newly adopted cats and kittens, cats with an unknown FeLV/FIV status, sick cats, and any cat that may have been exposed to another cat of unknown status. Feline leukemia is most commonly transferred through bodily fluids, and FIV is transmitted through deep bite wounds. This ultimately can impact a cat’s immune system and overall health. Due to infected cats not always showing signs of illness right away, testing is the only way to know their status.

For many cats that test negative, vaccination against Feline Leukemia Virus is also an important part of preventive care. The FeLV vaccine is recommended for all kittens and is strongly advised for cats that spend time outdoors or have contact with other cats, where exposure risk is higher. We would be more than happy to help determine whether vaccination is appropriate based on your cat’s age, lifestyle, and individual risk factors!

Preventive care, including routine testing and vaccination when appropriate, helps give your feline friend the best chance to stay as healthy, happy, and mischievous as Ringo for years to come!

Did you know mosquitoes and ticks can transmit horrible diseases to your pet? We can test and help prevent these. Ask for a 4DX test today, which tests for heartworms and for certain bacteria transmitted by ticks. Please keep your pet on heartworm, flea, and tick prevention.
