This event will be open to anyone looking to learn more about our favorite group of animals, teeny beans! We will also be recruiting for new fosters, specifically for bottle babies and moms with litters. Whether you want to learn more out of curiosity, interest in fostering, or just for fun, you are welcome.

Meet the Staff - week 7!

As you know, Central Ohio Muttessori School embraces all types of people and supprts the LGBTQ+ community. Most of our staff started their training journey as a child and we love seeing young people who are interested in learning how to communicate with their dogs. We’ve brought these two things together and will be launching our Dog Club for LGBTQ+ youth!
This group (yet to be named, we are letting the kids choose) will meet twice a month and cover all things dog. Dogs may attend after an evaluation, and this club is completely FREE!
If you have an LGBTQ+ child age 12-18 who would like to attend, our first meeting is Friday, May 16 at 6:30 pm.
Parents are welcome to stay at this meeting, no dogs please.

Difficult subject.
We often ignore very clear signals given.
We don't mean to, but sometimes our needs override taking a step back and assessing.
➡️Our insistence as a society on patting dogs we just meet
➡️Ignoring subtle signals from our own dogs
➡️Not respecting that a dog can consent to touch (just as we can).
➡️Teaching children to say "yes" to patting dogs they have just met and do not know.
➡️Patting dogs when they are resting/sleeping because they look "just so cute".
➡️Not respecting that they have the right to change their mind and that the patting and cuddling habits may have changed today...and that is OK !
➡️Completely ignoring the moving away, turning away and sometimes "wrestling" with a fidgety dog just to give them love...by patting.

In saying all this, this graphic is also very individual.
Some dogs will flatten their ears in preparation for a good pat session that they thoroughly enjoy.

Take a second look.
Adjust what you are doing if you have to.
It will only increase your bond...not diminish it.

Did you know that every species learns through the same processes? From dogs to tortoises, and beyond. The motivating factors may be different, but the actual way of learning is not. So that means that when you ask us if our training can work on kids or partners, the answer is yes, but probably not with a click and some liver 😆

The Doggy Egg Hunt was a huge hit! The dogs got to find eggs filled with treats, coupons for DQ goodies, and “coins”! Then they got to trade in their coins for toys of their choice. The Easter Bunny was there for photo ops, and the weather was great! Out of 500 eggs, they found 499!
