Due to overwhelming demand, we're opening our Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class EARLY!

We normally don't offer this class until the fall, but so many of you have been asking that we decided to add a session now!

If you've been waiting for the next step after basic obedience, this is it.

The AKC Canine Good Citizen program is the gold standard for well-mannered dogs and is a fantastic goal for dogs with a solid foundation. Whether you're interested in therapy work, advanced training, or simply want a dog you can proudly take anywhere, this class will help you get there.

We will cover TWO CGC exercises each week, giving you plenty of time to learn, practice, and perfect each skill. During the final week, we'll run a complete practice CGC test so you and your dog know exactly what to expect before taking the official evaluation.

This class is ideal for graduates of our Doggy Elementary School or dogs with a solid understanding of basic obedience.

We don't know when we'll offer this class again after this session, so don't wait! We expect these spots to go fast.

Ollie the Weimaraner has been working hard at Day School!

Today's skill was Paws Up! This simple exercise has some big benefits: it helps build confidence, improves body awareness, and gives dogs an appropriate alternative behavior instead of jumping up.

Ollie also practiced Premack Recalls, learning that coming when called doesn't always mean the fun is over. In fact, checking in with his handler earned him the chance to go right back to what he was enjoying, making recall something worth coming back for!

Our Day School is much more than daycare.

15 weeks old and already putting in the work!

Here is cutie pie Gemini practicing "place" at school and then at a coffee shop. Different environments, new distractions, and lots of opportunities to perfect that focus.

Training isn't just about commands, it's about teaching our puppies how to stay calm (and make good choices 🙃).

🐾 Paws & Plants Update🪴

We are disappointed to share that Paws & Plants has been postponed.

Unfortunately, our building's air conditioning is still not operational, and we don't feel it's safe or comfortable for our vendors, rescues, attendees, volunteers, or the animals to host an indoor event at this time.

This wasn't an easy decision, but everyone's comfort and safety comes first.

The good news? Paws & Plants isn't canceled, just postponed! We will announce a new date as soon as we're able.

Happy National Corn Fritter Day! (who decides these anyways 😅)

Speaking of corn... who else thinks their dog's paws smell suspiciously like Fritos?

Believe it or not, "Frito feet" are actually pretty common! The distinctive corn chip smell comes from harmless bacteria and yeast that naturally live on your dog's paws.

As long as your pup's paws look healthy and aren't red, swollen, or excessively itchy, that familiar scent is usually nothing to worry about.

Now we have to know...

“The bite came out of nowhere!"

It's something we hear all too often, but the truth is, bites rarely happen without warning.

The hard part? Dogs don't always communicate with growls or bared teeth first.

Many dogs give subtle signals that they're uncomfortable long before they feel the need to bite. This chart illustrates some ways dogs communicate their comfort level. When these early signals are ignored, a dog may escalate to growling, snapping, or biting because they feel they have no other way to communicate.

The good news? Learning to recognize your dog's body language can help prevent situations from escalating and build trust between you and your dog.

Our dogs are communicating with us every day - we just have to learn their language.

It's gonna be HOT out there!

When temperatures climb, our pups can overheat much faster than we do. A little planning can go a long way in keeping them happy and healthy.

Here are a few hot weather reminders:
•Walk during the early morning or later in the evening when it's cooler.
•Check the pavement before heading out. If it's too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds, it's too hot for your dog's paws.
•Always bring fresh water and offer plenty of drinking breaks.
•Stick to shady routes whenever possible.
•Give your dog a cool place to rest indoors during the hottest part of the day.
•Never leave your dog in a parked car - even with the windows cracked. Temperatures inside can become dangerous within minutes.

But your dog doesn't have to skip the fun this summer! A frozen Kong, a sniffy enrichment game indoors, or a short training session in the air conditioning can provide plenty of mental exercise while staying cool.
