National Mutt Day is a chance to celebrate the one-of-a-kind pups who keep life interesting. Mixed-breed dogs may not come with papers, but they bring plenty of heart, loyalty, and personality. Whether your mutt came from a shelter, a neighbor’s litter, or found you out on the ranch, today is all about them.

No two mutts are exactly the same, and that’s what makes them so special. They’re full of surprises, quirks, and charm. If you’ve got a mutt who makes your days better, we’d love to meet them. Share a photo in the comments and tell us their name and what you love most about them.

Cloud Peak Vet Clinic cares for dogs of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. If your mutt is due for a visit or just needs a little extra TLC, give us a call at (307) 347-2781. We’re proud to be part of their story!

July is National Pet Hydration Awareness Month, and with the summer heat in full swing, it’s a good time to check in on how much your pets are drinking. Whether they’ve been out working, walking, or just lounging in the sun, dehydration can sneak up faster than you think.

Keep an eye out for early signs like dry gums, low energy, dark urine, or a dip in appetite. Make sure their water bowls are fresh and full throughout the day, especially if they’re outside. Some pets do better with cooler water or a mix of moisture-heavy foods, so make sure you know what your companion needs to stay hydrated.

If you’re not sure your pet is staying hydrated or something seems off, give us a call at (307) 347-2781. Cloud Peak Vet Clinic is always here to help!

After a full week of showing, hauling, and keeping up with the pace of the fair, your animals are probably just as tired as you are. Even the ones that handled it like pros might be feeling the wear and tear now that things have settled down. This is the time to check in, slow things down, and help them recover well.

Keep an eye out for anything that seems off. That might mean a drop in appetite, loose stool, sore hooves, stiffness, or just a change in how they act. The stress and activity of the week can catch up with them once the adrenaline fades.

If something feels off or you’re not sure what your animal needs to recover well, we’re just a phone call away. The team here at Cloud Peak Vet Clinic is ready to check things over, answer questions, and help your animals get back to feeling their best. All you have to do is give us a call at (307) 347-2781.

Hard ground, dry air, and long hours on the move can really wear down hooves this time of year. Whether your animals have been hauled to a show, worked in the heat, or are just out of their normal routine, their feet might be feeling it more than you think.

Now is the time to check hooves daily. A quick cleanout and look-over in the evening can help you spot chips, cracks, heat, or soreness before it slows them down. If something seems off, like tender walking or changes in how they stand, it’s best to take action sooner rather than later.

If you're seeing signs of soreness or want a second opinion on how your animals are holding up, give us a call. We're here to keep them comfortable and moving well through the rest of the summer. Reach out to Cloud Peak Vet Clinic at (307) 347-2781. We’re always glad to help!

Headed to the Washakie County Fair with your four-legged companion? Whether you’re bringing a barn cat, a show dog, or just your family pet along for the ride, it’s important to keep them cool, calm, and safe. Here are a few tips:

Keep the car cool. Temperatures inside vehicles rise quickly, even when it doesn’t feel that hot outside. Use air conditioning or keep windows slightly open when parked. Never leave pets unattended in the car.

Pack for comfort. Bring water, a travel bowl, a towel for shade, and something familiar to your pet, like a toy or blanket. This small gesture can help ease your furry friend's stress.

Protect their paws. Hot pavement, trailers, and metal surfaces can cause painful burns. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your animal’s feet.

Use leashes and ID tags. Fairs can be loud and crowded. Make sure pets are secure and wearing updated identification, just in case they get spooked.

If you’re not sure whether your pet is ready for their day at the fair or just want help preparing, Cloud Peak Vet Clinic is here for you. Swing by or call us at (307) 347-2781 and we’ll help you plan a safe trip.

Fair week is in full swing here in Washakie County, and while everyone’s focused on the show ring, don’t forget what’s happening back at the barn. With the extra foot traffic, noise, and heat, it’s easy for what is normally a small issue to become a major setback.

Here are a few barn safety tips to keep your animals calm and your setup running smoothly:

✅ Check gates and latches twice a day to prevent unexpected escapes
✅ Refill water buckets often. Hydration is critical in this heat
✅ Keep visitors to a minimum in animal areas to reduce stress
✅ Post feeding and care instructions clearly in case others are helping out
✅ Have a backup plan and emergency contact info easily visible

The barn might not be the spotlight of the fair, but it’s where animal health starts. If you have concerns during the fair, Cloud Peak Vet Clinic is just a call away at (307) 347-2781.

Stay safe, show strong, and enjoy the rest of fair week!

Did you know pets accidentally start over 1,000 house fires every year? With today being National Pet Fire Safety Day, it's a great time to take a closer look at how to keep your pets safe at home.

A few simple precautions can make a big difference:
✔️ Blow out candles before leaving the room
✔️ Keep stove k***s and electrical cords out of reach
✔️ Use pet alert window decals so firefighters know who’s inside

It’s also a good idea to include your pets in your emergency plan. Keep leashes or carriers near exits, and make sure your family knows where your pets tend to hide when they’re scared.

If you're unsure where to start or want help building a safety plan that fits your home and pets, the team at Cloud Peak Vet Clinic is always here to support you. Just give us a call at (307) 347-2781 or come by our clinic!

Hot summer days are tough on all of us here, and our animals are no exception. Whether it's your cat lounging in the barn or a horse out in the pasture, they all need a little extra help staying cool and comfortable.

One of the best ways to support them is by keeping up with their grooming. For dogs and cats, brushing out any excess fur can help our furry friends cool down and can even soothe any skin problems that flare up in the heat. Just be careful with double-coated breeds because their fur actually works as natural insulation and to regulate body temperature.

Livestock benefit from regular coat care too, and the right grooming routine can make a big difference during hot weather. Clean coats, trimmed hooves, and easy access to water all help our animals stay healthy and comfortable. And keep an eye out for horse flies. As temperatures climb, horse flies can become a problem, which can cause serious irritation and stress. If you are seeing more and more of these pests around the animals in your care, we have some helpful prevention tips in our blog:

Planning a summer road trip or heading out for a long weekend with your pet? Whether you're exploring the Bighorn Mountains or visiting family out of state, it’s important to prepare your furry companions for safe, comfortable travel.

Before you load up the truck or hitch the camper, keep these pet travel tips in mind:

✔️ Hydration is key – Always carry fresh water and offer it often.
✔️ Stick to their routine – Bring your pet’s regular food, medications, and comfort items like blankets or toys.
✔️ Travel safely – Use a secured crate or seatbelt harness to prevent injury in case of sudden stops.
✔️ Plan for breaks – Stop every couple hours for potty and stretch breaks.
✔️ Keep ID current – Make sure tags and microchips have up-to-date contact info.
✔️ Never leave pets in a hot car – Even with the windows cracked, temperatures can become dangerous within minutes.

For some pets, travel can be stressful. If your dog or cat experiences anxiety, motion sickness, or if you're flying and need a health certificate, Cloud Peak Vet Clinic is here to help.

Call us at (307) 347-2781 to talk through your travel plans and make sure your pet is road-trip ready. Let’s make it a summer to remember, for the both of you!

Summer is the busiest season for lost pets.

Backyard BBQs, road trips, and loud celebrations, especially weekends like the one we just had, create the perfect storm for pets to slip away. Anything from open gates and unfamiliar surroundings or sudden noises can be the reason that your well-trained pet runs.

Each year, millions of pets go missing. According to the American Humane Society, only about 15% of dogs and just 2% of cats without a microchip ever make it back home. But with a chip? Those chances increase dramatically.

A microchip is a simple, permanent way to link your pet back to you. It only takes a few minutes, and it’s far more reliable than a collar or tag alone. If your pet already has a chip, we can scan it and confirm your contact info is up to date. If they don’t, we can place one quickly during a short visit.

At Cloud Peak Vet Clinic, we’re here to help your pet stay safe and find their way back home if they ever go missing. Call us today at (307) 347-2781 to schedule a quick chip check or placement and give your pet lifelong protection.
