Brittany, day 17…

We have made a ton of progress in her training! We are yielding hindquarters and forequarters beautifully, we just introduced the back a few days ago and she’s slowly getting better with that, her lunging skills are slowly improving, and we’ve made a massive leap in her citizenship skills! We are picking up all 4 feet, leading outside the round pen, and she’s getting a lot better at being caught both in the stall and in the round pen.

I’ve had a lot going on these past few weeks, and with that I must apologize for the lack of updates. However, this week we are getting back on track with posting regularly!

The stalls are done!!

We will now be able to take in more horses for training and board! Our stalls are 12’x24’, 6’ wood dividers, 5’ stall fronts. Since there is limited availability, these are a first come, first serve basis.

Our progress on growth is coming slowly, but surely, as time and funds are available to us. Future plans for the barn? A 3-4 stall expansion is coming later this year (fingers crossed!), and we plan on concreting the floor and adding stall mats for easier cleaning and creating level ground so the horses don’t throw their bodies out of whack when they lay down.

Plans for expansion besides the barn? We are building our arena this summer, which will be outdoor until we have the funds to cover it. A later expansion we will be putting in is the main barn, which will be 12-14 stalls with hay storage and a feed/tack room. We will still keep Shed Row in use, which is the barn we are using currently, but the main barn will give us more housing options for client horses and our own personal horses. And somewhere along the line we will put in a wash rack. We just don’t know when or where.

Our stalls aren’t fancy, but they’re safe and functional! And that’s exactly what I wanted. More updates on the expansion are yet to come, and I’m excited to have you guys along for the ride!

Brittany, days 4 & 5

This post is delayed by a few days due to my current work schedule…

Day 4 was the day she got the halter put on. I did have to toss a rope on her to get her to fully commit to letting me up to her, but she took everything in stride. She has improved significantly on her round penning skills, and we accomplished join-up! Huge step for her.

Day 5 I started introducing giving to pressure while on the lunge line so I can further refine her round penning skills. She is definitely better at changing direction from right to left, but she showed significant improvement but the end of the session on changing direction both ways. I was able to end the session with rubbing her down from nose to flank on both sides, and I started desensitizing her to the lead rope.

Our next goal is to get her to pick up all four feet safely, which I predict can be done by the end of next week.

KEEP IN MIND‼️
(regarding untouched horses)
Not all horses come around as quickly as this little mare I’m working with. Some horses will let you touch them by the end of the first session, with others it can take up to two weeks to put their first touch on them. It all depends on the individual horse, taking into account their age, overall demeanor, and what prior experience they’ve had with humans in the past, if any at all. And yes, horses can have negative experiences with humans and still be untouched.

More training updates on this girl will be coming soon! I can’t wait to see what progress we will make over this next week!

Meet Brittany…

Brittany is a 4yo mare in for 30 days of groundwork. Our goal? Get her to pick up her feet, load in a trailer comfortably, and be a quiet safe horse for her owner and his family.

She came to me completely untouched, and by the end of today (being session number 3), she got her first touch from human hands. We ended on a good note, and we will shoot for the halter tomorrow. Session number 2 was cut short by other doings, but we sure made up for it today!

I will be documenting her progress on here and my other platforms, along with others that I get trained up, whether it be clients or my own. Stay tuned for her progress! We’d love to have you along for the ride!

First touch in 3 sessions? I think yes! Her second lesson was shorter than originally planned, but we made up for it today 🥰

Are you looking for a trainer who doesn’t skip any steps? One who understands how important groundwork is to create a safe, reliable, confident equine under saddle?

We practice intensive, thoughtful, constructive groundwork with every horse that passes through our barn to solidify a concrete foundation of trust, respect, and willingness before ever climbing in the saddle. From tying to trailer loading, to standing quiet for the farrier and beyond, every detail is intentional so there are no “mystery gaps” that show up later on down the road.

Books are still open for 2026/27 to outside horses!
