Ms Barb adopted a dog from the Pinole Animal Shelter (back when we called them a Dog Pound) in 19
90 something. After struggling to communicate to reach her sweet shy black and white puppy she named Abby, Barb was at a loss. ( Doesn’t Abby know that I love dogs?)

Barb grew up with dogs, and learned excellent dog ownership care from Mom. But…a great dog is not simply born. Some people get lucky and have a great dog naturally, with no effort. This is NOT the case 90% of the time. Barb grew up with dogs, but before Abby, Barb did not know how they became such great family members. There in California, faced with a puppy who was shut down and unresponsive, Barb was faced with a problem and no solution. Here was her first puppy as an adult, and all the things she remembered as a child from watching Mom raise Snoopy and later Gigi, was not working. Lucky for Barb, she saw an ad for a dog show at the Cow Palace. A day off from work, and a chance to see AKC dogs at a big AKC event was exciting. Once inside, it was like Dorothy in Oz. Barb was in awe. The dogs, the people, the sheer volume of all things dog… it was heaven. Sitting in the stands watching a Border Collie and handler performing a sheep herding and duck herding demonstration right there in person, was nothing short of miraculous. Seeing is believing. Seeing in person is entirely different than watching TV at home. It is like the difference between listening to a song on the car radio, and hearing that same song LIVE, On Stage, RAW… in person.

Do you remember your first concert? New words like “Obedience Trial” and “Conformation” and all things AKC carried an impact like a tour at Universal Studios. Barb did not want to leave. So many beautiful breeds, so many talented dogs, so many dog people (“they’re just like me!” thought Barb.)

Barb tapped the shoulder of someone who had a perfect Sheltie. “Excuse me, how did you get your dog to behave so well?” asked Barb.
“I took my Sheltie to obedience school”, replied the owner. Barb: “Obedience school? What’s the name of it?”
Sheltie Owner: “Arydith”. Barb: “Pardon me, what is that?”
Sheltie Owner: “Arydith Obedience School”
Barb: “Ar-a-what? “
Sheltie Owner: “Arydith, Judie Howard.”
Barb: “Judie? What’s her number?”
Sheltie Owner: “She’s over there, go around to the other side, and ask for Judie”
The rest is history. Abby was transformed from a timid shy pup into a confident, fantastic dog that everyone adored. Barb was transformed from a dog lover to a dog trainer who can do something more than love. Thus, Dog Logic…. Barb thinks like a dog and will roll out how a dog sees logic. Dog Logic is more than dog training. It is Barb’s personal passion for dogs, and her innate gift for telling you how your dog sees you, and improve you and your dog’s relationship.
