Some of our furry clients and their families noticed Winston and I had to take a break from the cookie world we ABSOLUTELY LOVE due to my health complications last year. Just as Winston and I were ready to come back to our loyal customers again, my husband (Winston’s Poppa) was diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma brain cancer. Currently, Winston and I are his full-time caregivers as we live quite a distance from our families and friends. Even with this, we are still taking orders big and small to help us financially. Unfortunately, glioblastomas are one of the rarest and most fast growing brain tumors. In addition to this, there is no cure for them. Bob had brain surgery back in January and at that time, his oncology team only gave us a 12 to 18 month life expectancy. Our lives literally changed overnight! Bob has always been our main source of income and health insurance provider and to say the least, we are struggling quite a bit. I’ve always heard people say “cancer is extremely expensive” over the years but we found out pretty quickly they weren’t joking!!! In the hopes of extending his life expectancy and his quality of life, Bob now wears a device called Optune practically 24/7 that creates an electrical field on his head to slow down the fast progression of the glioblastoma. He is literally fighting for his life every single day while the treatment itself is listed at 25K a month!!! Plus, he’s now in the maintenance period of treatment and does his monthly chemotherapy followed by scans. If needed, we can bring back his radiation treatments. At first, he did radiation treatments every day Monday through Friday and I administered his chemo every evening for 6 weeks. He now is at the point of getting monthly scans as well followed by appointment with his oncology team at The Ohio State University. And with our location, it’s practically a 4-hour round trip there and back. Currently, our family is living with cancer in the hopes of keeping him here with us as long as we can and we all cherish every single minute of the day together with him. I created this Go Fund Me myself with the hope of others showing their kindness through donations and prayers to try and offset some of our financial burdens. At this point, we’re doing everything we can to at least keep our home through this tragedy. Our happily ever after did not include him passing in his 50’s and me becoming a widow in my 40’s. Bob and I got married in 2019 and we feel like we’ve been cheated out of time together after we finally found one another. Luckily, my husband has always been a fighter and we’re hoping he’s one of the rare cases we will have him with us for years while still preserving his quality of life.
Thank you,
Melissa and Bob
