Cold clear winter night on the garlic farm. The cold winter we have in Maine tells the garlic the cold dormancy period hs begun , known as vernalization, of about 4 to 8 weeks with temperatures below 40°F (4°C) to properly form bulbs, usually achieved by fall planting so it experiences winter's cold. This cold exposure signals the clove to stop vegetative growth and start bulbing in the spring. Without sufficient cold, bulb formation is poor, though some varieties need more cold than others. This is why our Maine cold winter is a time of rest for the garlic and the garlic farmer ….❤️🧄❤️🧄

Ramblings of a Maine Garlic a farmer :It’s with a broken heart I write about the passing of Little Lu , the best garlic dog ever. So many hours on the back deck processing garlic together ,so many joyful walks in the woods. So many trips to shore and so many naps in front of the woodstove. Oh this sweet little garlic dog took on life with lots of zoomies and skips everyday . The one true lesson she showed this garlic farmer was what true joy was daily , always a bark , always ready for adventure and always ready for a nice nap . Every treatment you were snuggling by my side. I will always hold in my heart your lessons of seeking joy in everything and nothing beats a good snuggle.
You will be so missed !!!! ❤️🧄❤️🧄❤️🧄
