Flying Duck Farm Horse Sanctuary "A forever home for those in need." Each and every day I am looking for ways to expand to help more animals and people.

It started out with a few ducks (hence the farm name) and now we have chickens, goats and horses along with cats, dogs and bunnies. I am fortunate enough to have a number of our horses sponsored by some of our great supporters. This helps me continue to do what I do for animals. I don't like labels, but if necessary I'd say this is a sanctuary. There are too many animals and people out there that

need help and I want to do what I can. This is a safe place that is what matters. I've always loved helping animals and people and am slowly incorporating the two. About half of the animals we currently have are rescued animals that have come here to get/be healthy, loved and safe. My thoughts are NEVER give up until you've tried everything possible. Everyone and everything deserves a shot at a GREAT life! Life isn't a contest of who can have the most money or items, its about what you do with your time.

Look at it now! Almost nonexistent!

That sure was an interesting wound. To be honest, we all were concerned if it would actually heal. Especially how it was slow to respond to the meds in the beginning. But here we are today!

Time to wrap this big guy in bubble wrap.

Buddy’s story;

Buddy and his mom were “pony ride” horses. Well, his mom was and they were trying to train him to as well at only 8 months old. What made things worse was the fact that he had a dead eye. And they weren’t planning to remove it! That could have resulted in a life threatening infection. His feet were over grown as well. His tail filled with manure and briars. He was a scared little baby that needed help.

In order to get Buddy out of this bad situation we had to buy him for $400. Yes, you read that right. Not every horse here comes in free. Sometimes we’ve had to fundraise just to get them out of bad situations. Private homes. Not auctions. And then we still had to catch up on his care and have his eye removed.

Buddy is all grown up now and has been with us for many years.

A lot goes in to saving some of these horses.

Early morning breakfast chores before the sun comes up.

August is coming to an end soon and September is already looking to be busy. Busy is good though. 4H, scouts and yoga just to name a few that will be going on here. There’s always time for farm tours, field trips and birthday parties so please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Herd dynamics always fascinate me. It’s interesting to see who pairs up or hangs out together.

Earl and Mousse (Morgan’s horse) are best buds. You will often find them hanging out in the pasture together or napping in a run in. Like clockwork after almost every meal Earl will mosey over to stand next to Mousse while the others finish eating. After they finish and are unhooked you may even find them catching a post meal time nap side by side.
