10-year-old Happy has hit the jackpot with his new paw-rents, Mary and Eric!

Mary, one of our wonderful Young at Heart volunteers (not that we’re biased!), first met Happy during one of her shifts. In just a couple of hours, he curled up in her lap, made biscuits on her legs, and snoozed the day away, winning her heart completely. By the end of her shift, she was already filling out an adoption application. 😽

In that moment, it was clear: Happy had already chosen his family.

About a week later, Mary and her husband Eric came back to bring home their new furry family member. Now Happy is settling in, soaking up every bit of love and attention, and slowly getting to know his new feline sibling, 8-year-old Kuzco - even if he's already figured out how to escape every baby gate during introductions!

Oscar, Lexi, Pippa, and Vinnie may be pint-sized, but their cardiology needs are anything but. ❤️‍🩹

All four of these adorable senior Chihuahuas recently saw the cardiologist, and each one now requires ongoing monitoring, medications, and specialized care to keep their tails wagging, their tickers tickin', and their golden years as comfortable as possible.

Oscar and Lexi have a more advanced chronic valve disease (CVD), as well as enlarged hearts, and they have started daily meds. Vinnie has early-stage valve disease and a heart murmur, and he will need regular cardiac check-ins.

And Pippa, our littlest love with the biggest heart struggle, was born with a serious congenital defect that makes her very high risk. But she's defied the odds so far, and we want to give her every chance to keep thriving!

To help cover the cost of their recent consultation and treatment, we decided to launch a limited-edition “I ❤️ Chihuahuas” t-shirt fundraiser - featuring the sweet faces of these four little heart warriors!

Every shirt sold helps fund their care - but more than that, it shows the world that tiny dogs with big medical needs are worth fighting for.

Our goal is to sell upwards of 250 shirts, and if we're being honest? Even the proceeds from that won’t fully cover the cost of their recent cardiologist visit, let alone the care still to come.

10-year-old Roux is ready to weather the forecasted summer storms in style! ⚡️💦

When Roux was rescued in mid-May, it didn’t take long to learn he hates the rain. One drop, and he’d put on the brakes - no thank you, not even for a potty break!

So, we added a stylish raincoat to our Amazon Wishlist just for Roux. That way, he could step out with his senior roomies on rainy days without getting soaked. Thanks to Cathy S., who generously gifted it to him, Roux is now looking cute as a button and feeling much braver in the drizzle! 💚

Well hey there, friend! The name’s Beaux. 🐾 My name may be spelled all fancy, but I’m just a down-home, good-time kind of guy.

I'm 8-years-old, but I’ve still got that spring chicken kinda spirit. Give me a harness and a nice day, and I’m rarin’ to hit the trail. I love goin’ for walks, sniffin’ the breeze, and listenin’ to the birds sing their little songs. It’s the simple things that make life sweet.

I’ve got plenty of energy and bounce, but once I’ve gotten my steps in, I’m all about porch-sittin’ and head-scratchin’. I’ll gladly rest my head in your lap and soak up the lovin’. I’m sweet, loyal, and I’ll bond deeply with my person(s) - no doubt about that. 💙

Now, I do like my space when it comes to other animals. So I’m lookin’ for a home where I don’t have to worry about sharing my turf and I can be the only pet.

That said, if you’re lookin’ for a one-and-only kind of companion - a handsome, happy, treat-lovin’ Southern gentleman who’ll walk through life right by your side - I just might be your guy.

16-year-old Clyde is part of our Sanctuary Program, which means he’ll spend the rest of his life here at Young at Heart. He'll be safe, cared for, and deeply loved.

Senior pets like Clyde often have nowhere else to go. They’re overlooked, fragile, and often need more care than most shelters can provide. But thanks to the kindness of supporters like you, they get to live out their golden years with comfort and dignity.

At 12-years-old, Tiger is the whole package: distinguished, playful, independent. He's definitely the kind of guy who pretends he doesn’t care you’re leaving the room, but then follows you anyway.

10-year-old Tundra has officially completed all three of his Immiticide injections to treat heartworm disease! 💉

This critical phase of care was essential to giving this sweet old man the peaceful retirement he deserves. The injections work to kill off the adult heartworms, but they come with serious risks - most notably, embolisms caused by worm fragments traveling to the heart, lungs, or brain. To minimize this danger, strict activity restriction was crucial to keeping his heart rate and blood pressure low.

Thankfully, Tundra is a naturally mellow guy, but we still took extra precautions to help him through treatment safely. It hasn’t been easy playing “fun police,” especially when it meant keeping him from romping with his best buddy Nova, a fellow Heartworm survivor and Sanctuary pup here at the adoption center. But we know it’s been worth it, and soon, we hope to hear good news about his recovery and begin easing those restrictions.

None of this would have been possible without your compassion. Thanks to your generosity, Tundra got the chance so many senior dogs never do. The chance to heal. The chance to be safe. The chance to grow old with comfort, dignity, and love. From all of us, and especially from Tundra: thank you. ❤️

HOME SWEET HOME 🏡❤️

Stella’s journey brought her to Young at Heart this January. At 10-years-old, this sweet and talkative senior kitty needed extensive medical care. X-rays revealed fragments from a BB or pellet gun - painful proof of the cruelty she had endured. Even more concerning was a mass on her mouth, which testing and surgery confirmed to be oral squamous cell carcinoma, an aggressive and common cancer in cats. Because of this diagnosis, Stella became part of our Sanctuary Program.

While her cancer is expected to return at some point, we don’t know when, and until then, Stella deserves the joy of a comfortable, loving home. Thanks to her amazing new Sanctuary Foster, she has exactly that.

Liisa, Stella’s Sanctuary mom, says Stella wasted no time settling in. She’s officially the queen of the house, ruling her new kingdom with purrs and personality. She’s eating well, taking her meds like a champ, and can often be found happily glued to “bird TV” on the screen. 🥰

Our Sanctuary Foster Homes are absolutely vital to our mission, and we’re so grateful to Liisa for stepping up and saying “yes” to giving Stella the love, devotion, and dignity she deserves in the twilight of her life.
