Troy is home! Again this wouldn’t have been possible without the Marengo Fire & Rescue and the Wisconsin Large Animal Emergency Response teams all working together to get this horse across the river.

So when Dr Nickys sons baseball game is cancelled due to the rain she has nothing better to do then help the amazing Marengo Fire and Rescue with this trapped horse!!
After she spent over 8 hours in the river with the help of a ton of Emergency Response crew and the Wisconsin Large Animal Emergency and Technical Response team, we swam the horse back to shore (atleast 15ft deep with strong current due to the rains). When we reached shore the horse was too tired to get up so we ALL pulled him safely out of the watered fields and administered more medical treatments before loading him on the glide into Shelley’s trailer who had been waiting for the horse and Dr Nicky to cross the river all day LOL!! We got him to Kendall Road Equine Hospital for monitoring and he was up and standing before Dr Nicky left that evening!! ❤️❤️. To everyone who helped you are all a god send and this wonderful horse thanks you SO much!!

We here at Cutting Edge Equine want everyone to know that we know of and are monitoring the current EHV outbreak in TX. At this point it is isolated to Barrel Racing horses that have history of being in Waco, TX.
That being said we have a lot of Barrel Racing clients and want them to be assured that we are watching the situation and am in direct contact with any clients that have been down in that area recently. Any and all horses that have been traveling will be quarantined with no contact with any other horses and have twice a day temperature checks for 2 weeks. This in accordance to recommendations from the state veterinarians from TX and OK.

For any horses that did not get fall shots……..vaccinating for EHV in the face of outbreak is extremely helpful. So if your horse has not been vaccinated in the past 90 days please call for a booster. For the ones that did get fall shots we are still within that window so they are as protected as possible.

For our clients of other disciplines we are again monitoring for any other spread but are not worried for you all to show and travel at this time. Go bring home the ribbons!! 😃

Words can not explain how much these 2 wonderful women mean to me and everyone in our practice!! This may be Veterinary Technician week…….but honestly it should be every day!!!! Shelley has been with us for over 9 years and Elana is working toward 7!! These 2 are what keeps this practice going in the forefront and behind the scenes!! From their on point horse handling skills, compassion for our patients and clients, organizational skills (we all know it takes a village to keep Dr Nicky on task) to our non-stop fun with all that we do ❤️❤️
