Earlier this year, Cobb County contacted Our Pal's Place as they were having to euthanize for space. Unfortunately, this happens too often. This time it was a dog by the name of Figaro who was top of the kill list because he had been in the shelter for too long and was going "cage crazy". Bouncing off the side of his cell walls and noticeably underweight from stress, Fig was about to lose his life. When our Intake Team met Fig, we knew something had to be done to help this boy. Once in the safety of O.P.P., Fig calmed down but had a hard time settling. We tried him in different rooms, introduced him to a variety of dogs and ultimately placed him in the Welcome Area. Eventually, Fig settled into his routine at O.P.P. and became a volunteer favorite.
At the beginning of the summer, one of our awesome volunteers and a local college student, Evie, asked if she could foster a dog while she was home with her family for her summer break. We all agreed Fig was the one who would benefit most from a summer break!! Throughout this summer, Fig has traveled to new places, met new friends, and tried new things! Here’s what Evie had to say about Fig’s time with her:
“Fig has done great! He has adjusted to this foster home super well, he gets along with cats and other dogs. What we found out about him is that he is a true foodie (or garbage disposal) he loves trying new foods. He’s picks up on energy of the person that he’s with so if you are calm he’s going to be requesting some pets and love, or if you are ready to take on a trail he’s ready to get into his harness. At the end of the day he gets snuggled into bed and will want to be held like a teddy bear!! He does great in the car, too! I have him on a lead, but he doesn’t try to jump out of the windows or anything. He’s also a potty trained!”
As Fig's summer break comes to an end, we are desperate to find Fig another foster home or... better yet... a forever home so he can continue to thrive.
