KHQ Local News talked to our Founder about the importance of the new Ranger’s Law.

“Dan Regester, the executive director of K-9 Kavalry, first brought forward the bill. Regester, a retired veteran, shared that his service dog, Ranger, plays a crucial role in his daily life. However, he faces challenges with parking access for safely loading and unloading his dog.”

To our treasured members of the pack.

We haven't had an update in a while. The daily routine has us running on all ends. So here's a few of the things that might have missed your feed.

- We lost a veteran last week, Greg Lynch who happened to be the first veteran to join K9K. Our program was literally molded around his condition and in many ways the program IS him. We are working with his family for his celebration of life on Nov 15th at Langdon Farms Golf Club. Our morale suffers greatly from this loss. But we continue to steady the ship. K9K is still on mission.
- Capt Jack, Greg's black Lab is now retired an in the loving arms of Greg's family as is PFC Gunny his new Black Labrador puppy that he was training. K9K has bestowed the designation GOLD STAR KANINE to them both as canines that served and survived the building, and loss of their veteran link. GOLD STAR KANINES gain permanent member support status at K9K, regardless who holds the leash.
- HB1371 took effect on October 1st and we are already seeing our members gain access to and using the benefits of handicap parking permissions. This was a 3-year effort and we are very proud to say that Ranger's Law is now DELIVERED. Washington State only. Go get it.
- We had a steady rotation of events this year, from golf events, to stand-downs, to Yellow Ribbon Family Support gatherings, and many more. The amount of support that grows year over year is absolutely amazing.
- We also have more new partners this year than we can shake a stick at. Everything from movie directors to crypto-donors. The magnetism of the pack is special and unique. We are all proud to share it with each other, and with you.

This seems a good place to pause. There's so much more going on I could write all day. I just miss all of ya and wanted to give you the scoop.

If you want to RSVP for Greg's Celebration of life, you can do so here. https://www.facebook.com/events/3016375391869285

If you can't make it but want to attend his zoom call that will be live at the Celebration of Life, RSVP here for a drop on your calendar. https://www.k9kavalry.org/event-details-registration/memorial-of-gregory-lynch-zoom-call

Forever on watch, Till Valhalla.

Wow can’t believe it was a week ago today that Dan & Ranger threw out the first pitch at the Portland Pickles Baseball game!

The ceremonial first pitch is a longstanding ritual of baseball in which a guest of honor throws a ball to mark the end of pregame festivities and the start of the game. Since 1910 all but two US presidents have thrown out ceremonial first pitches at one of of the three important baseball games annually (Opening Day, the All Star Game or the World Series).

The Portland Pickles chose to bestow this honor on the 4th of July to the director and founder of K9K in honor of the partnership between the two organizations. To throw out a ceremonial first pitch at America’s Pastime on America’s birthday could have only been more representative of America if Dan was eating a slice of apple pie while doing it!

Another great opportunity to bring the vision of K9K to the veterans of Oregon!

At the 80th Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs Expo in Salem, dozens of veterans organizations from across Oregon came together to offer benefits and services to Oregon veterans. There were roughly 300+ veterans at the Expo, with dozens of veterans specifically asking about K9K and our benefits for veterans.

Everyone loved seeing the puppers. There was high interest in our program because we help train veterans to train their service dogs to meet their disability needs, and the service dogs get to learn and grow with them. Our goal is to help veterans gain a resource for a better life experience with training, life skills management, and having a service dog, as well as the benefits of having a battle buddy by their side and camaraderie with veterans in our pack.
