Shiloh was found stray in West Sac a couple weeks ago. Despite our attempts to contact the owner listed on his microchip information, no one ever came to claim him 💔

Now he’s looking for his second chance at a forever home. He was initially very timid and shy when he arrived at our shelter but we could also tell right away that he was incredibly sweet. Once he came more out of his shell, we started to see just how much of a lover boy he really is. He practically throws himself onto his back at your feet so that he can immediately get belly rubs and will stay on his back for as long as he can, soaking up all the attention he can get.

It’s clear Shiloh is a very good boy and would make such a fun and loving companion for a lucky someone out there. We have not seen him interact with dogs but he has been non reactive passing them on walks. If you have a dog and would like to see how they do with Shiloh, schedule an appointment at yoloshelter.org/dogs and bring your dog with you!

It's true that volunteering at a shelter can be emotional and draining. But for the animals waiting for homes, having someone show up for them is always better than having no one at all.

Whether you're walking dogs, helping with enrichment, socializing cats, fostering kittens, or lending a hand behind-the-scenes, your time can make a real difference in an animal's life.

Kitten season is in full swing, and throughout the summer we'll have an ever-changing group of kittens, cats, puppies, and dogs waiting for their second chance. If you've ever thought about volunteering, consider this your sign.

“Uppies please!” Tiny boy Sublime would love to be your pocket-sized pal. He loves every person he meets now that he’s settled in more — he was really shy and nervous when he first arrived as a stray đŸ„ș

Sublime isn’t the biggest fan of other dogs but could be OK with a chill companion since he recently did well with 2 other calm female dogs. But his dream would be to be the center of your universe.

Smitten For Kittens is back! Join us on Saturday, June 6 at the Phi Delta Theta house on C Street in Davis, CA for our annual kitten adoption extravaganza. Our goal: get as many kittens adopted as possible in 3 hoursđŸ±

Kitten season means we will be swimming in kittens all summer long. This big adoption event helps us start kitten season on the right foot by finding a bunch of great homes in record time.

And since it’s going to be California Adopt-A-Pet Day, all adoption fees are waived for kittens adopted at this event!

This event is sponsored by Friends of Yolo County Animal Services and UC Davis Phi Delta Theta 💛

For those who don’t remember our beautiful boxy girl: Elena was adopted from our shelter only to be returned to us TWO YEARS LATER for not getting along with the resident dog anymore and for being protective of the home when visitors came over. She returned completely heartbroken and traumatized. Fortunately, her foster mom from 2 years ago took it upon herself to take Elena back into foster so she wouldn’t have to break down further from shelter stress.

It took some time to get the old Elena back but with patience, structure, and love she has learned to trust again. Beneath her serious face is an affectionate, emotionally sensitive girl who wants nothing more than to curl up beside you, play fetch in the yard, and quietly keep you company.

Elena is potty trained, crate trained, rides well in the car, and has completed a professional 3-week board & train session with K9 Development that helped build her confidence and social skills. She knows basic commands, walks nicely on leash, and is very responsive to guidance from her handler.

This 6-year-old bully mix is looking for an adults-only home where she can be the spoiled only pet. She thrives with structure and deserves someone willing to continue setting her up for success. In return, you’ll get a loyal companion who loves hard and will happily snort around the yard looking for her favorite ball before climbing into your lap for cuddles.

Fresh off the heels of her board & train session, Elena is perfectly primed to transition into a wonderful forever home. Could that home be yours? Email [email protected] to set up a showing with Elena.

Elena is currently fostered in Davis, CA

Babygirl was a last minute substitution for our PetSmart adoption event today — and she totally crushed it! This mystery mutt is an extrovert who LOVES getting pets and attention from anyone and everyone. This girl does not understand the concept of “stranger danger” 😅

She was adopted from us awhile ago but returned quickly because she didn’t like having her face constantly touched by a baby. So if you are a baby/toddler-free household or have older kiddos who understand how to be respectful around dogs, you should consider meeting Babygirl!

This perfectly medium sized pup is 50 lbs (she’s not “big” but maybe dense?) and is approximately 2-3 years old. She loves walks and enthusiastically plays with toys, thoroughly capable of entertaining herself by flinging toys around. She would also probably make an excellent adventure buddy!

We adore this cuddlebug and we know you will too. Schedule an appointment to meet Babygirl at yoloshelter.org/dogs
