Hi friends ā¤ļø

I wanted to apologize if I’ve been slower than normal getting back to messages lately.

I’m currently in the middle of a pretty big life transition and packing up 13 years of life while continuing to care for my regular pet clients and keep things moving behind the scenes.

I never want anyone to think I’m ignoring them, don’t appreciate their business, or that they’re bothering me. If you’ve reached out and haven’t heard back, please send me another message. I promise I still want to connect.

Thank you for being patient with me while I navigate this season. I appreciate every single client that trusts me with their pets ā¤ļøšŸ¾ Adi says ā€œHiā€!

I swear every time I open the Southbury Community page another pet sitter is getting publicly appreciated and I’m over here like:

My clients love me privately apparently šŸ˜‚šŸ¾

Meanwhile I’m walking, cuddling with, loving on your babies and I’m also giving medications, monitoring senior pets, sending photos, handling emergencies and answering vet related questions happily by text.

Moral of the story:
If you love a small business… TELL PEOPLE. We survive on word of mouth.

This is the hardest part of this job.

I get to love my clients babies too. I learn their quirks, their routines, their favorite spots to sit, the way they greet at the door, the look they give when they want one more treat. I build relationships with them…

My client lost 2 of their 3 babies in less than a year, I’m heartbroken over the loss of sweet Chatham just recently and Coral last year. Coral lived a long, well loved life, but Chatham was only 6 and had so much more life left. šŸ’” I loved them both so much.

To her family, I am so incredibly sorry. You were so lucky to have each other and thank you for trusting me with their care.

Pet sitters grieve too. These animals become part of our world. They’re woven into our lives and when they’re gone, there is a deep sadness.

Chatham wasn’t ā€œjust a client’s pet.ā€ She was special and loved.

Run free, sweet girls. 🌈🐾

🐾 Arthritis Awareness Month but for Pets!

We talk about arthritis in people all the time, stiff mornings, sore joints, needing a little extra time to get moving. Now imagine feeling that… but never being able to say a word about it.

That’s our pets.

Dogs and cats are incredibly good at hiding pain. It’s instinct. So instead of limping or crying, you might see subtle changes:
• Slowing down on walks
• Hesitating to jump on the couch or into the car
• Sleeping more or seeming ā€œless playfulā€
• Stiffness after resting
• Changes in grooming (especially cats)

It’s easy to brush this off as ā€œjust aging,ā€ but arthritis is painful, and more importantly, it’s manageable.

Just like in people, early intervention can make a huge difference in quality of life. There are so many options now: joint supplements, weight management, medications, laser therapy, even simple changes at home.

Your pet doesn’t have to ā€œjust deal with it.ā€

If something feels off, trust your gut. You know your animal better than anyone and small changes are often the first sign they’re trying to tell you something.

Let’s keep them comfortable, mobile, and living their best lives for as long as possible. šŸ¶šŸ±šŸ’š

Hey Jack it’s been so warm out is it safe to plant my sensitive palm trees and tropical citrus in my front yard?

……….NO

Here are the European model lows Tuesday morning. It’s a long winter in New England folks.

I made a call today just to get an idea of what boarding costs locally for two dogs…for my dogs. I’ve never had to board them but I am potentially going to be in a housing transition and so I’m trying to prepare.

Honestly… it was a bit of a wake-up call.

To be fair, this was just one facility, and it’s newer and more state-of-the-art, so pricing may be on the higher side. But still…

For two dogs, it came out to roughly $70–$80 per dog, per night, and that’s for staying in a shared ā€œsuiteā€ with a THREE 5 minute potty breaks…PER DAY. Play packages and more time out of the cage is extra and I already knew I couldn’t afford the basics, so I didn’t really care about the ā€œextrasā€.

It really made me step back and think about the difference in care options and what I provide.

Boarding:
-$70–$80 PER dog/per night (50-90lb dogs)
-High-volume environment
-Limited individual attention (unless you pay for it)
-Stressful environment for some dogs
-extra required vaccines (kennel cough)
-possible exposure to sickness and fleas
-having to transport pets

VERSUS

In-home care (what I provide through Flock & Fur):
-Your pet stays in their own home
-One-on-one, personalized care
-30 years of veterinary experience behind every visit.
-No exposure to illness, fleas, stress, or unfamiliar surroundings
-no extra vaccine
-no transporting
-updates daily including pictures if requested and often even if you don’t request.

Even for clients that just do drop-in visits when they go away, most of them receive 2-4 visits per day, each with a 15-30 minute visit.

There’s absolutely a place for boarding, and for some pets it works just fine and is definitely better. But for many, especially older pets, anxious pets, or those with medical needs, being at home can make a huge positive difference.

I’ve always tried to keep my pricing fair, especially for multi-pet households, because I know how quickly things add up.

But this definitely gave me a new perspective on the value of what I provide.

What I provide through Flock & Fur is really more of a concierge-style service, personalized, one-on-one care in your pet’s own home, with attention to their routine, comfort, and individual needs.
