A lot has changed for Buddy since entering the Woodbridge Animal Shelter as a stray last month. For starters, he's now clean, his pressure wounds are starting to heal and he's started treatment for Lyme Disease and Ehrlichia. Buddy has also learned that being on a leash doesn't hurt and we would bet our last dollar that Buddy was tethered outdoors for far too long. This is the first time shelter staff has witnessed a dog hesitant to move forward on a standard leash and collar, then flinch and hit the ground when he reached the end of the leash. It's also when shelter staff realized just how damaged his throat is from being forced to live that way, he has actually passed out from pulling while wearing a collar.

Buddy hasn't let his past treatment and lack of human affection effect his sweet nature one bit.
Today Buddy happily trots on a harness and has the freedom to run and play in the shelter yard. He's learning about these funs things called stuffies and balls but he'd much rather be next to you. He's a velcro kinda guy!

Buddy's ideal home would be with a patient family who understands he might need a little extra time and guidance living indoors as we think he may have separation anxiety. He is dog friendly so having a "buddy" may help him transition. It is unknown how he is with cats.
Children in the home should 10 yrs or older to avoid little ones being knocked over as Buddy likes to happy jump.

Here's a before and after photo.

Come on down to The Woodbridge Animal Shelter and meet Buddy!

Not every baby needs to be "rescued".
Take it from one of New Jersey's best wildlife rehabs.
If you can donate, now would be the time to support your favorite local wildlife rehab!

Well say it AGAIN and AGAIN
FOR those in the Back!

🚨 PLEASE STOP "RESCUING" FAWNS 🚨

We know your heart is in the right place.

Every spring, kind and caring people come across a tiny fawn lying quietly alone in the grass and assume it's been abandoned. The urge to help is completely understandable.

But the truth is...

That fawn is almost certainly exactly where it's supposed to be.

Mother deer intentionally leave their babies hidden for long periods while they feed nearby. The fawn's job is to stay still, stay quiet, and wait. Mom's job is to stay away until it's safe to return.

Unfortunately, we see the heartbreaking consequences of unnecessary "rescues" every year.

Healthy fawns are taken from the wild and brought to rehabilitators dehydrated, stressed, malnourished, injured from improper handling, or suffering from aspiration after being fed the wrong things. Some don't survive the stress alone. Others lose the chance to be raised by the one creature best equipped to care for them—their mother.

If a fawn is curled up quietly, appears alert, and has no obvious injuries, please leave it alone.

Do not touch it.
Do not feed it.
Do not move it.
Do not pose for photos with it.

The greatest act of kindness is often doing nothing at all.

However, if the fawn is continuously crying for hours, wandering aimlessly, covered in flies, visibly injured, weak, or has ears that are curled and dehydrated, then it's time to contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator immediately.

Please help us spread the word. Share this post. Talk to your friends and neighbors.

Every fawn that stays with its mother has the best possible chance at life.

Sometimes the best rescue... is no rescue at all. 🦌❤️

When it comes to wildlife, please listen to the experts!

When it comes to wildlife, please listen to the experts!

I am shutting down comments. The mean, cruel comments and vulgar language will not be tolerated. You will be blocked. I did not ask for your opinion in any way. If you choose to fill the lungs of an animal with fluids and drown it from improper feeding because you "don't see anything wrong with it"! You are the problem! You can't justify your actions with any excuse.

am begging you... Please if you find an animal in need, DO NOT FEED IT ANYTHING! NOT EVEN WATER! You are killing them with your good intentions! Please spend your time finding a licensed rehabilitator! Do not waste your time Googling what to feed them. The ONLY correct answer is NOTHING! Google does not have a license to rehabilitate wildlife. It is full of bad and harmful information!

I have held 2 different babies in the past 10 days that died in my hands. All I could do is cry. They didn't have to die! I can fix dehydrated. I can fix hungry. I can't fix being fed plant based replacement formula or soy milk. Especially for days. I can't fix the explosive liquid diarrhea from being fed formula they can't digest. I can't fix the aspiration pneumonia fluid filled lungs.

I know they're hungry and thirsty and crying. But trust me it is kinder to not feed them anything! Please refrain from doing it! It may be the kindest thing you can do.

I am heart broken for these babies. Please learn from them. Their lives meant something. Don't kill them with your kindness.
