In between the cleaning and the road calls and the 2nd cleaning and the road calls and the vet visits and the laundry and kitten baths and assisting visitors, Animal Control Officers try to carve out time in their day to comfort a scared shelter animal, befriend a lonely face who's waited far too long that nobody asks to meet, teach an old dog new tricks or show compassion to a fearful animal who doesn't know what this new life behind bars is.
It's the reward of the job.
Gilbert is one of those animals. Surrendered with his best friend Buddy many weeks ago, these boys were a handful to say the least. Growling, hissing, lunging....anything to keep people away and they meant it. Their previous owner even came to help (no judgement please).
For many weeks many soft words were spoken and lots of yummy treats given but they weren't falling for the tricks.....
Until one day they did!
Two weeks ago, in all of his cuteness with his club foot, Gilbert greeted staff at the front of his cage with a head bump. Baby steps are still being taken and he's not quite ready to climb in laps but Gilbert is getting better every day!
This brave boy is ready to begin his journey to a furever home!
Gilbert deserves a quiet home where he is given the opportunity to decompress on his terms. Gilbert is 3 yrs old and fully vetted. His leg is a birth defect and doesn't bother him at all. In fact, he makes the cutest biscuits with it ❤️
He can likely live with other cats after he acclimates to his new family so a separate space for him would be ideal. No dogs or active children please.
Please visit The Woodbridge Animal Shelter and ask to meet Gilbert if you think you're a good match for him.

*we should mention that Buddy's progress has been slower but he's trying really hard*
