Our first Working Equitation show of the year was a huge success for all on our team! Howard and Erica duked it out at L5 with Macario and Malagro for the first time. Each took a win for the weekend. Long-time students Becky Shervan and Jill R. each rode wonderfully at L3, earning scores with only tenths of a point between them, and they too each took a win for the weekend! Sandy Klinkey swept L2 for the wins both days. Howard rode Especial Dis Rios at L6, showing continued growth in their partnership…and looking forward to moving up to L7! We also had 2 new clients who rode schooling rounds on their horses for the first time; Leslie Kvistad rode her boy Elliott to a whopping dressage score of 68% day 2. Kristine Strasburger rode her young 4-year-old mare Lexi, with big progress, going up from 59% day 1 to 65% day 2. And Howard also competed Janita Smith’s super pony, Carpe Diem, in schooling rides for the first time, earning great scores. Thank you to Judge Sarah Pinney for the great feedback, to TD Jill Mahdessian, paddocks stewards Sharon Kinney and Janita Smith, and show manager Julie Alonzo for all the work necessary to make these shows successful and enjoyable to the competitors.

We are proud to continue to strive to build the sport of Working Equitation in our home state. This past weekend we taught during the 2 day WE clinic at Fox Valley Saddle Association. Day one, obstacles, and day to Dressage ride-a-test. We loved seeing new riders to WE gain confidence doing something new, and celebrated with the growth of seasoned riders. Thank you to Julie Alonzo, who also helped teach on obstacle day. Thank you Sandy Klinkey for helping organize the event!

This last weekend we were blessed to show at Intermediate B with horse's we trained.
At the end of the day. Without the team and the horse's. It would be meaningless.
There was so much success with the students and clients and competitors.
Watching everyone quietly succeed... PRICELESS!!! Life is Great and Awesome!!!

Happy belated birthday to Milagro SR, PRE stallion owned by Silverstar Ranch of Dowagiac, MI. Milagro turned 6 yesterday. This powerhouse of a stallion was last year's 2025 IALHA Grand National Champion Senior Stallion and ANCCE Fiesta Ocala Second Place Section 10 5 & 6-year-old Stallion.

2026 started off with a trio of accomplishments! 🏅 🏅 🏅
Congratulations to our two students, Becky Shervan and Jill Rockwell on earning their USAWE Bronze Rider Medals! Your dedication and hard work is paying off, and we are so glad to have you as a part of the team!
Then, to our surprise, we were notified that Howard had also earned his Bronze Rider Medal…a few years ago apparently, but it was missed in the tracking. Thank you USAWE for the recognition and for the work it takes to keep this kind of program running!

Congratulations, Howard Peet, on your HIGH SCORE DRESSAGE win at the 2025 USAWE Region 5 Championships. Your score of 72.04% on SFA Macario in the Intermediate A class was the highest dressage score of our Championship out of all levels and all rider divisions!

Way to go, Howard and SFA Macario!

That’s a wrap on our 2025 Iowa WE clinic and schooling show series with Cy-Hawk Working Equitation for the year! We have had such a great time with this group and have loved to see them all grow over the year. Keep in touch, and we will see you next spring!!
