When it comes to finding/choosing a new fur-buddy to join your family, Google is always a great start!
However, Google should NOT be the end all be all to your research and decision making process.
He’s just an example of one site that provides a lot of helpful information, but again, it also has some inaccurate or outdated information as well. Example: Several of the “Breeders” they have listed in this article are no longer in the business, or they don’t have updated contact/location information. Our sister company, NWI Chinchillas, is now located in Wolcott, Indiana and has been for over two years. They have not been in Hammond for nearly five years now.
So it’s best to utilize multiple resources/articles, talk to a few different breeders and even others that currently/previously owned Chinchillas; Where did they get theirs? What was their experience with the animal? What was their experience with the Breeder or Pet Store they got them from? How long have they had Chinchillas and how many do they have?
The truth is you can find a chinchilla pretty easily; but it is up to you to do the screening process of the Breeder/store to ensure that the animal that you are getting is one from healthy genetics, from a place that knows how to raise and care for them, one that is willing to answer questions and educate you not only on Chinchillas, but can tell you the specifics about your Chinchilla and its background.
Do your homework and be confident in the person/place that you are getting them from! 😇
