Happy Anniversary to me! Met with a lawyer the final time to complete my LLC paperwork 5 years ago today.
I've now worked primarily for myself for 5 consecutive years, making this the longest job I've ever held. I worked at Tim Hortons for 7 years, Non-consecutively, but that may have had something to do with the relaxed overnight atmosphere and 30 hours per week with the man I ended up marrying, while we still worked together.
Then laid off together - I went back to looking for an actual career path, someplace I might find fulfillment.
I had left college for lack of direction and lack of finances... at 27 the government would stop considering the income of my whole family and just consider me.
On my 27th birthday I was hired to work at a vet's office, that offered discounted tuition at a cooperating college if I studied to become a vet tech while working there.
I jumped at the chance, studying and working in the kennel.
I found I liked the kennel.
I liked learning the personality of all the regular dogs and cats.
I started to consider opening my own animal care business, and just using my degree as a credential and a backup.
I worked as a vet tech for a few years... Bounced between a few places. Started at a Fear Free vet around the same time I moved to Wolcott... the end of 2020. Found those Fear Free handling skills to be Invaluable at the grooming I had started doing on the side.
And in the 2020 priority shift... decided to take a gamble and make grooming, as my own boss, my main gig instead of vet teching. Got enough gumption and enough cash for the lawyer by 2021.
April 12, 2021 I officially opened Emily's Home Pet Care, LLC.
Approximately 50% of new businesses fail by the 5 year mark.
I'm still growing and still stubbornly against raising my prices because more clients and more efficiency is my natural raise system...
So celebrate with me, pray for my continued success in this God-forged path of service through business
