This is Ravioli, and since he belongs to a vet tech (from a referring hospital) you know he was going to keep us on our toes! He’s now an 8-month-old kitten, but we first treated him at the end of August. He presented through the ER for vomiting, chronic diarrhea, and inappetence, and was ultimately diagnosed with an intestinal intussusception: a serious condition where a section of the intestine's folds into itself, creating a telescoping effect that leads to obstruction and reduced blood flow.
Ravioli underwent emergency surgery with Dr. Rickard Kohler and later followed up with Internist Dr. Kenneth Palladino for ongoing management of his chronic diarrhea.
Unfortunately (and uncommonly) he developed a second intestinal intussusception and required another surgery in October with surgical resident Dr. Shira Rosenblum and surgeon Dr. Nicole Amato.
Here he is in the photo above, soaking up a little extra TLC in the ICU. His owner has continued follow-up with Dr. Palladino and reports that Ravioli is doing wonderfully at home and is back to his typical orange-kitten antics.
