Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic of Wisconsin Rapids

Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic of Wisconsin Rapids The Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic of Wisconsin Rapids offers affordable, preventative care. A few years ago the clinic was sold, and it fell on hard times.

The Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic was built by Mark and Kathy Schaack in 1993. In the past, it has boasted four veterinarians and eighteen support staff. Satisfying clients' needs was always Dr. Schaack's top priority. Doctors came and went, and there were rumors that the clinic would actually close. On October 15, 2015, the Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic was purchased by Dr. Kristie Ponc

e and her husband, Mario. This was like coming home for Dr. Ponce, who had worked at the clinic under Dr. Schaack previously, and considers him one of her most important mentors. Having grown up in this community, Dr. Ponce feels that she is very aware of the needs of local pet owners. Our staff is a mix of old and new faces. Connie Friday-Saylor, Tammy Krause, and Roberta Shaurette have each been with the Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic for at least fifteen years. We have many hard working and knowledgeable new employees also. We have big plans for our clinic and our community, both now and in the future, and welcome you to come along for the ride!

💙We are deeply moved and incredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and kindness we witnessed yesterday for Leah and her family. 💙

To our amazing community, our devoted clients, and our fellow veterinary professionals, THANK YOU. Your compassion and generosity have reminded us what it truly means to be part of something bigger than ourselves. Whether you donated, shared a kind word, showed up in person, or simply held Leah in your thoughts, please know that your support has made a real difference.

It’s moments like these that remind us just how strong and connected our veterinary family is. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU. 💕🐾

We are still accepting and collecting donations on Leah's behalf. We will be open today until 5:00 PM.

If you’re local to us you have probably seen the news about a devastating fire that happened in town yesterday. Our family goes to Animal Medical and Surgical Clinic of Wisconsin Rapids and frequently interacts with Leah. We are so grateful for the team there and the bright, fun person Leah is! If you are at all able there is a gofund me, or the clinic is taking cash donations!

We over at • Delta • Jane • Beautique • are also posting items today in order to raise funds! These items will all be Leah inspired (thanks to a friend for helping us choose some items). We will have accessories, clothing & more! We will even be featuring custom dog/cat tees!

Our community can do amazing things when it comes together! Let’s do that now!

💔 Support for One of Our Own 💔
Yesterday, tragedy struck one of our beloved team members, Leah, when a house fire destroyed her home, vehicle, and took the lives of all but one of her precious dogs. Her fiancé is currently hospitalized at UW-Madison, being treated for second-degree burns and smoke inhalation.
As a clinic, we are heartbroken and doing all we can to support her during this unimaginable time.
We are currently accepting cash donations at the clinic to help her and her fiancé begin to rebuild their lives. Every donation, big or small, will go directly to help with immediate needs and ongoing expenses.
We are also in the process of planning fundraising opportunities, and will be sharing more information in the coming days. Please stay tuned for ways you can help and continue to keep them in your thoughts.
Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support. 🖤

Today, we performed a routine dental cleaning on a sweet dog who looked like he had a pretty healthy mouth at first glance, no obvious broken teeth or signs of pain. But once we got in there and did a full dental exam under anesthesia, we found a deep pocket (called a sulcus) and furcation exposure, meaning the bone holding the tooth in place was compromised. 😞
This was something that couldn’t be seen just by looking while the pet was awake. If left untreated, it could have led to pain and/or infection.
Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings are so important! They help us catch these problems early, before your pet is in pain and before it turns into something more serious (and more expensive to treat).

🚨 We've Been Seeing More Cases of Diarrhea! 🚨
Lately, we've had an increase in pets coming in with upset stomachs and diarrhea. While occasional tummy troubles can happen, frequent or prolonged diarrhea can be a sign of parasites, diet changes, or other underlying issues.
🐾 How to Keep Your Pet’s Gut Healthy:
✅ Regular F***l Exams – Parasites aren’t always visible, so routine testing helps catch problems early.
✅ Daily Probiotics – A high-quality probiotic supports digestion and can help prevent GI issues. We love Proviable Forte ❤
✅ Consistent Diet – Sudden food changes or table scraps can lead to tummy troubles.
Give us a call to discuss the best options for your pet or stop by to drop off a f***l sample for testing! 🐶🐱
