We’re seeing more and more pets diagnosed with cancer… and the conversation has to go deeper than “better diagnostics.”
This Pet Cancer Awareness Month, Loren Nations, DVM, DABVP joined the No Bad Dogs Podcast for an important conversation around chronic disease, metabolic health, inflammation, longevity, and the future of preventative veterinary medicine. 🐾

Dr. Hernandez and Dr. Tom recently visited Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine! 🐾

Fun fact: Dr. Hernandez is an LSU graduate herself, and her journey with VHA has truly come full circle. After working as a CVT and serving as our ER/ICU Manager before heading to veterinary school, she made her way back home to VHA… this time as a DVM. Even more special? She brought two of her LSU classmates back with her along the way. 💙

During the visit, our team hosted wet labs, a lunch & learn, and a happy hour for veterinary students.. creating opportunities to share knowledge, mentorship, hands-on experience, and connection with the next generation of veterinary professionals.

At VHA, education and mentorship are deeply woven into who we are. We’re passionate about helping shape the future of veterinary medicine while continuing to build a profession rooted in compassion, excellence, leadership, and community.

A big thank you to Dr. Tom, Dr. Hernandez, and for having us… we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to connect, teach, learn, and continue pouring into the future of veterinary medicine.

Addie’s journey into veterinary medicine began in high school through an apprenticeship at a small animal hospital, where she discovered a passion for both patient care and the fast-paced, ever-evolving nature of the field. Over the years, she has worked in nearly every role within a hospital, ultimately stepping into leadership where she found purpose in supporting teams, strengthening culture, and helping others grow into their full potential.

Her experience spans emergency, surgery, and general practice, where she has led large teams, managed high-volume hospitals, and played a key role in opening and growing multiple practices. She was drawn to VHA because of our clear focus on people, culture, and sustainable growth, and the opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking organization committed to developing leaders at every level.

Outside of the hospital, Addie enjoys spending time with her dog Suggs and cat Dorito, traveling, and bringing her love of storytelling, connection, and authenticity into both her personal life and leadership style.
